New to buggies but have been a nitro basher for a while. It won't take you long to figure out what tools you use all the time but the basic ones are a must - needle nose, a good set of allens are on everyones list. When it comes to clean up, don't spend tons of money on nitro cleaner. Of course have a can handy, but use it sparingly. Get yourself some de-natured alcohol. It's cheap and cleans the nitro stuff great. After-run oil is good too, I have a bottle but you can also use WD-40 and as we all know, WD-40 has other great features too that can be used on the machines.
I agree with humboldtblazer, get the "D" size igniter. I have a "C" size one and the c batteries don't last like the d ones do. As far as starter boxes, I have the 1/8 scale associated one. Cost me $90 and had to do some serious re-arranging but it takes stick packs as well as the larger re-chargeable battery. It comes with a powerful 750 can motor, lots of torque. Some of the nickle and dime stuff I'm always picking up just because is: various harware, nuts, screws, e-clips, all the little stuff that's cheap but you always seem to need. Oh yeah, and the one thing you really can't do without in your toolbax is this website and all the great folks here. Nothing against the LHS, but the guys in here are out there day in and day out running. This is my best source for anything.
