Hello all,
I recently bought a Miss Bud but the local hobby store doesn't support boats of any kind. I bought some Traxxis 20% nitro fuel and opened it before reading the back which states NOT for use in boats or aircraft.

Is there a way to add some castor oil or something to make it boat safe or do I need to ditch the gas and buy something else? If I can add oil, if you could give me a hint on how much to add to a half squeeze bottle full of fuel (250cc I think) would be helpful. If there is a suggested breakin mix and run mix that too would help a newbe.

Thanks,
Mike

Dragon2U-

18-20% oil content is what you should have for boats. A blend of Castor and Synthetic is highly recommended.

Yes, you can add your own oil to create the blend you need. Find out the percentage of oil in Traxxas fuel (sorry, couldn't find it for you - I'm guessing it's around 10-12%). Based on my guess that would be roughly 13ozs of oil (total with blend) per gallon of nitro. You'd be safe adding 8ozs (up to 10ozs) to get where you need to be. If you're dealing with just a quart add only 2ozs.

BTW, stir the mix, do not shake it.

Well, if those guys are right, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've run 18% since break-in and have put nearly a gallon through my boat without a problem.

Run it and enjoy, just keep an eye on the temps.

Thanks for all the info. The problem is that I called Traxxas Tech Support and they couldn't tell me the oil content. They said that someone else blends the fuel and they had no specs on it. They also said that they DO NOT recommend it for use in their boats.

So, now I don't know what I have. The Blue Thunder 20% recommended fuel has a supposed 12% oil content according to thier support people.

I would think that the Traxxas had at least that much but I don't know why they say NOT for use on boats or aircraft. Unless there is something else I'm missing.........

Again, thanks for the input. I just want to make sure this thing lasts more than a few starts. Does anyone think it's gonna hurt it or should I just go for it with this gallon, hope for the best and get better stuff later?

I'm willing to bet it's a lot lower oil content than 18% if they're not recommending it for their own boats.

That's pretty pathetic they don't know the % oil in their own brand of fuel. Did they even bother recommending an alternative fuel?
