A year ago I bought a Hot Bodies Lightning2 Pro, which in the UK is, by a long way the cheapest "pro" available.

I have not only "bashed" this I have also run 17 full-on race meetings with it...

Want to know how much I've broken??

2 Shock shafts.
1 Upper Arm.
1 Steering rod end.

Thats it...for approximately 15hrs of full on racing thats all I've broken, this car never ceases to amaze me.

No diff gears.
No wishbones.
No Hubs.
No nothing really.

I would recommend this car to anyone, all I've done to it to make it competative is, enlarge the holes in the damper pistons to 1.5mm, put mugen springs on the rear and toe out at front.

Everything else is bone stock inc the diffs.

and the point of this post??

I made my 1st A final yesterday in field that included more Prospec's, 777's and X8B's than you could shake a pointed stick at....

I have the lightning RTR (or it was an RTR, I bought it used as a roller for $80). I have replaced the front shocks due to leakage and will soon replace the rear shocks when $ allows. After 2 gallons have been run through the chassis I have only busted an engine mount adapter. Very tough buggy.

Cool. I bought one over the winter and I will get my first track run with it this week.
The HB is such an over-looked ride.

its not really over looked, its a good car, its just parts are hard to find here in the states, most hotbodies parts are hard to find for some reason. parts for the LSP are next to impossible to get.

I'm waiting for the co-location of HB and HPI to kick in. I don't know what the long delay is about.

As soon as they get going with hpi that will all change...

nice , I just love those supposed to be underdog buggys showing good results
in fact it is an HPI buggy quality wise

I didn't buy one, because I thought the front uppersuspension with the uniball would be to weak on big impacts, so it isn't then ??

Lightnening pro is not an underdog buggy, as you all know i to have owned and raced a ligthing, sacker pro for over a season, and found it to be a good and reliable buggy, i also found that after a season of ful on racing it started to break, and wear, basically anythin bolt on plastin needed replacing, over here the sacker or lightning as u know it is the biggest selling car around and it does well, but after owning both a sacker and a mugen its not comparing apples to apples more like mini to porcshe, is probably one of the best rtr kits out there, but is still an entry level buggy, bet you didnt get in the a final with the standard force engine that came with it !!!!!!!!!

dont forgwet the lightning is an exact replica of a kanai 2 kyosho so it shoulod be able to keep up

Nope, Mike its the Lightning 2 "Pro" version, you don't get the engine or electrics, defo not an rtr. I'm now running an S7II. (Wore out my Collari)

Think you'll find all Buggys will have a little slop in them after a year of hard running.

I think compairing the LP2 v Mugen as a "Mini v a Porsche" is somewhat unfair though!!!!

That said I'll happily beat lots of Porsches with my "mini" for half the cost thank you very much!!

Yeah thats what i ran in mine a ws7II went well, what we call the sacker pro is the lightning 2 , only our importer threw in a sacker motor with them ????? why the hell, as far as the unfair exsample, i have owned and driven hard alot of different buggies, mugen is one of the best there is, I've been driving my mugen a year now and havent broken anything and havent had to replace anything, nothing is warn and nothing wiggles 2inches each way, if your doing that well with your lightning thats great, but imagine that you might do better with mugen or kyosho, dont get me wrong I'm not running the lightnings down they are a great buggy, but in my exspeerience longevity let mine and others over here down, our tracks over here are xtremely bumpy though so what lasted a year may last you 5

with underdog buggy, I mean , like some people always say :
it isn't a mugen or kyosho.... sometimes I don't understand, if one said it about a Swift, then I could understand, yes...
but I also drive a mayhem pro and I am so impressed with his conceptional qualities and lovely parts, as well as his strenght and performance,
that I let my xb8 sitting on the shelf
I mean, if I compare italian Crono RS or Bergonzoni R1 (with no torquerods and a 2 piece/ o-ring spring ancestarial clutch) to a mayhem, they are inferior in quality, and still they are more respected in the big buggyworld...

my opinion: if you stick with one brand car, mayhem, lightning pro2 or x1-cr, for a while and do your thing with love for that car, you can beat mbx5 or kyosho777 to, as you can see here:

14 may ARCR series Little Rock
A Main Results 1/8th Scale Buggy

1st Place….Brad Shackleford (5)…..Mayhem Pro....
2nd Place…Steve Strickland ( 8 )……...
3rd Place…Tony Larosa (4)…………...XRAY....
4th Place…Mike Shackleford (6)…….XRAY....
5th Place…Dino Walls (3)……………....XRAY....
6th Place…JD Crow (10)…………….....XRAY....
7th Place…Garrett Winningham (9)…TTR S3....
8th Place…Drew Spurgeon (2)……….Jammin....
9th Place…Tom Colclasure (7)..……..OFNA....
10th Place..Shane McCall (TQ)……….XRAY

777 is weak and is used after a saison racing to, so is not cheap for what you get
