Got a couple of old family VHS tapes which the VCR ate and tore the tape out. I fixed up 3 tapes. The actual film / tape doesn't look the best as the others but hopefully it will still play. The VCR we got is 15+ years old and doesn't play VHSs anymore. It will either eject it self or tear up the tape. Also to note the remote doesn't work anymore. Still plays CDs but you can't fast forward or skip because the remote doesn't work. The video only pops up on the TV which is weird. I tried to go through my audio receiver to the tv which didn't work. My grandma has a new VCR and a DVD combo new in box so I might steal that. So hopefully these tapes play in the new one. Also if it is a 2 in 1 DVD and Vcr I might copy the VHS to DVD. Also I am trying to find a old or vintage cassette deck so I can play all my grandpa's old tapes. He had some that he did him self and he has a collection of the Shell cruisin classics tapes. Also good having the Dynamite tool kit for the smaller Phillips and flathead drivers. It's useful for stuff around the house.

what are these things you speak of? whats a vsh?

those are from pre-historic times right?
Yeah pre historic times. Before we were both born lol.
I'm old school and new school. I use my Spotify/SoundCloud/iheart radio. I burn myself CDs here and there, MP3s, still listen to FM radio.
I use some vinyl records too. My uncle is supposed to bring over a big box of my grandpa's old 45s.

You brought back some memories with this one. Funny story...

My mom worked for Columbia Records here in town (everyone here called it CBS). Yeah... the company that sold you 13 CD's for a penny if you joined the CD of the month club. You youngins won't remember that, but all the old timers sure will. They also sold cassettes, VHS, Laser Disc, and every other media format known to man.

About once every few months, they held a HUGE sale in a warehouse, open to employees and their family members. It was full of gaylords (huge pallet sized heavy duty cardboard boxes) full of cassettes, cd's, VHS movies, Kiss and Ozzy t-shirts, etc. HUNDREDS of these gaylords filled the warehouse. You could spend a week in there, and never search all of them, even briefly.

After the sale, some of the leftovers went to the local landfill, which happened to be about a half mile from me. There was usually at least two semi loads of these gaylords that were discarded.

My Dad's best friend ran the landfill, and whenever a load came in from CBS, he'd have them dump it off to the side, and leave the piles there. My brother and I would get the word, and go grab bags full of cassettes. I had a music collection that rivaled local radio stations... all of them combined really.

One day my dad's buddy called and asked my dad if he wanted some VHS tapes. All he wanted was for my dad to fix up all the BETA cassettes. This was when VHS first hit the market. Actually, before it even became popular. Anyway, my dad agreed, and told Jack to just put them in the garage.

That day, I came home from school, and went straight to the garage as I usually did. I couldn't open the walk-in door. I had to go open the overhead door. When I did I found a mound of video tapes that was delivered in two heaping pickup truck loads. My dad came home from work and was ticked off at first, till he saw all the movies and tv show collections.

My dad started the worlds first video rental store (guessing) just a few days later with all the undamaged ones, and we spent MONTHS going through the VHS and BETA cassettes fixing all the broken ones. We had all the Star Trek, I love Lucy, and other tv series, Star Wars movies, etc. You name it - if it was on VHS, we had it.

I think it's very cool that you're interested in things that I grew up with that are considered relics now. We still have VHS and cassettes boxed up in storage, and of course plenty of CDs.
I didn't have many vinyls or cassttes since we didn't have much money growing up. I started buying vinyls and cassettes once I was able to work at 16, but shortly after that, CD started becoming affordable. So, I switched over to CDs.
I've been meaning to have my wedding video, in VHS form, convert over to DVD. I'm not sure if I still even have a VCR player somewhere in the basement or not.

VCR's you would have to find used or refurbished, but, if you look, they are out there. Prices can be astronomical though. I have seen them go for $200+ at times. Cassette players, you can get new still pretty much anywhere. Some can be extremely pricey though. I have a different version of this one: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Superson...-Converter-Bluetooth/736727640?from=topicPage but, it lets you copy cassettes to mp3, and put it on a flash drive. Heres a walkman style one that does pretty much the same as the other one: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rybozen-...d-Black/461534347?athbdg=L1600&from=topicPage These two are on the higher priced side: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/studeb...th-am-fm-stereo-black/6537089.p?skuId=6537089
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sharp-...e-and-bluetooth-black/5416903.p?skuId=5416903 and this one has a cassette and record player: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/jensen...and-am-fm-radio-black/3812309.p?skuId=3812309 (my mom has this one because she has a ton of Elvis records) This one we use in our party room at my mom's house (OK, so its nothing more than a couple dart boards, and a vintage competition Brunswick pool table), because it does cassette (my step dad has over 500 cassettes), CD, mp3 and wma: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sharp-350w-5-disc-mini-component-system-black/5788405.p?skuId=5788405

You better do that sooner than later. VHS doesn't last forever. Being a magnetic based tape, they can easily degrade over time.

This is my basement stereo setup. In my opinion, vintage HiFi receivers are better and more cleaner sound. With the new receivers which are more for like watching tv and home theater stuff, you can have surround sound and add a sub. And the newer receivers have lots of adjustability like EQ settings, and lots of settings. I feel like our old Pioneer has alot more bass than our new yamaha. My plans are to find a pair of vintage bookshelf speakers and have it up in my room. Right now I have a Samsung Soundbar which I blasted music on alot and I think I blown some of the speakers. Or try to find something like @biggman100 listed. This is the only tape deck i have in the house. All still works. The speakers don't. I got to bang on the volume button to get the left speaker to work lol. Looking for a tape deck I can hook up to my stereo. And maybe convert the cassette to CD? I also have this ION turntable. It used to have LEDs, but I took it apart and cut off the LEDs cause the LEDs were kind of annoying for normal listening.

Completely wrong thread for this but did I ever show off my diecast collection? I collect the 1:32 - 1:38 cars from like cvs, giant / walmart. Also collect hotwheels/matchbox cars. Also collect those HESS trucks around Christmas time. - @FJC_GUY

Here is the new VCR. Basically the same as the old one but like a little newer. All works now.
