This is why I only fly with one or two close friends. When you get into a larger group "experts" are suddenly everywhere. You get the guys who throw a ton of money at their gear but can't fly worth a danged. You get the guys who just want to chat at you while your trying to fly. You get the guys who act like they own the place. 🤷‍♂️
I just want to fly and enjoy myself, not there to impress or entertain others. These all pretty much apply to surface guys too.

I enjoy bashing and crawling, because I can enjoy it by myself or with a few close friends. :thumbs-up:

Apparently, I'm not much of a socialite. 🤣
Only issue that stems from running with close friends is the peer pressure. Too many times to count where either my buddy or myself left the bash spot with multiple pieces of one car because we started egging each other on 😅

This is a hobby that should be enjoyed with friends. If the local clubs are toxic, just don’t associate with them. We should respect the younger kids in the hobby, they’re the ones that will keep it alive. When the track was open here, the kids would be running their cars right alongside us. What’s reallt fun to watch is when the 13 year old wipes the floor with a 2wd HCG slash when the track is full of Tekno’s and Losi short course trucks. 🤣

Clubs generally aren't toxic; but you'll always get 1 person in however many whose values and modus don't align with your own. That's going to happen in life. Clubs can certainly become toxic if problems are allowed to grow.

In the UK, 'racing with respect' is the basis of the BRCA handbook.

However, there are things that strike me in these modern times:
  • the level of entitlement is at an all time high
  • tolerance is at an all time low
  • snowflakes seemingly make it their primary objective to be permanently offended
Our local club has developed over the past year or two has made great progress, hosting some excellent racing.

Obviously, racing isn't for everyone. But if it is something you'd like to do, joining a club - or starting your own - is definitely the way forward.

Meeting with like minded people is uplifting. I've recently returned to racing 1/10th 4WD Mod Buggy, following a 20 year hiatus from competing.

37 here. Been in and out of the hobby since diapers. Missed a few years during my teenage/partying and playing professional paintball years. Got back into RC and heavy into racing in my early 20s. Took another break when I got married and had my kids. Got back into it the first time one of them showed interest. Life just lifes sometimes but the RC hobby is always here for ya!

44 and a half?

Just turned 49 but on Friday after a few beers and some transmitter time, I'm 16 again. Thats why I RC. It makes me giggle. Makes life seem simple again.

I've had similar experiences to some of you younger guys at club races. About 12 years ago my brother and I got 2wd Sct's (slash and losi XXX) and went to a local track. A bunch of retired guys at an indoor clay oval. No amateur class so we raced the old guys and we took 1st and 2nd in the main that first night. The owner was really cool and helped us with setup. The rest of them were snobbish jack wagons that couldn't stand that we showed up the first night and won. Didn't agree with our 'rubbing is racing' mentality. We went back for a few months but the attitudes never changed. Kinda soured me on organized racing.

Now a days I just bash and crawl. Occasionally fly drones. Glad to have a wife that enjoys the hobby right along with me. And she's way more fun to play with than a bunch of snobby old retirees.
