First few questions?(+pics)

Ok so with the start of my maxx project coming into full swing, seeing how I have noting better to do lol. I bought a proline 72 chevy body yesterday and am starting about painting it up tomarrow. What are some tips you guys could give me, how long between coats, and what not, oh ya ill be rattle caning this one. The pain scheme is goin to be a 3 color scheme. I'm painting it red on the bottom and white on the top, with a black bead, and black outlined windows. I have a design in my head just need some tips to get it started lol. Thanks for your time.

as always dark colors first, warm the can up in a bowl of hot tap water( you should be able to rest your hand in the bowl of water otherwise it's just too hot.)
do several light coats instead of 2 or 3 heavy ones i'd say 5 min dry time between coats as long as they are light misting coats more time depending on humidity and how much was applied. and i'd give it at least an hour between colors as well just to be on the safe side.

good luck and can't wait to see the finished product.

Just like grin said, paint dark to light. Make sure you leave dry time between coats. Many light coats will stick better than 1 or 2 heavy coats. Hold the body up to a light so you can check your coverage.
Take your time. Be patient and it'll look great. Rush it and you'll stand more of a chance of making mistakes.
And have fun. Sometimes it seems like a pain in the ass. But when you peel that overspray film off of a job just done, it's a kick ass feeling when it all comes out right.

Ok so one more question. Do I cut the body to fit before or after?

Bryson

I usually cut the body first. That way I don't risk scratching the paint while I'm trying to cut afterward.

Thats what I was thinking, pluse then I can mark the body holes correctly. I can't wait to embark on this!

if it's got overspray film go ahead and cut it out and fit it to the RC, don't have to worry about scratching up your fresh paintwhen your done just let it cure for several hours and then mount it up.

also you don't have to paint it till it's completly opaque just enough so that you can't see thru it when it's sitting on the table, unless you plan on putting a light on the inside of the body it's just overkill.

Ok I didnt embark on it today but tomarrow looks promising lol. I have one more question though, I'm goin to cut and mask it tonight I think and was wondering, If you paint dark to light, how do you do the window outline in black last. Specially because I'm goin to do the top half in white anyone have any clue. And I just got a new digital camera today so pics are soon to come when its done. Thanks

Ok I got a quick question? I just finished cuting the body out and cleand it for paint. Should I drill the body mount holes before or after painting? I dont want this paint to crack off you know. Thanks.

All masked off and ready for paint.

It IS looking good. There's a great feeling of satisfaction that goes with a nice paint job. The next color will really make it pop.
Turn off your computer when taking photos. You're wasting our valuable band width.

LIL up date of the first color. I can't wait to see this thing done.

That looks good. Nice clean lines and good colors. Great job. Soon you'll be addicted and trying to think up sick jobs.

Just and FYI, to do the black window trim, you would have had to mask the whole body, cut the window trim and then paint it. If you tried to paint the black trim after the white, you would have royally botched the white. It would have ended up looking muddy and shaded.

Thanks Candy! I actully did the white then the window trim. I just made damn shure to be carefull, and used a 3x5 card to block the paint from goin on to the major parts of the white. There is only one part that got muddy, but its not that bad and noticable, except to my dad, he picked up on it like instantly, but hes been painting real cars and crap his whole life so hes got the eye. I can't wait for the next one, I've already got the design and colors just need the money, lol.

i kept thinking that the window had spray on it from the reflection. lol

Thanks man. It still looks like this too. I havent driven this truck much since I fixed it up. Its just sat on my floor siting in the way. But at least it looks good doing so!
