I attended my first crawler comp today as a spectator.

It was called an urban rock crawling course make up of all man-made obstacles. Most of it was taking place on 6' tables. Needles to say, if you made a mistake, you had a 3+ foot fall to the asphalt below.

I asked a lot of questions regarding scoring and such so I would not be such a noob when I crawl in my first comp.

Great day with a lot of great guys. It didn't matter if you were a seasoned veteran or a kid out for his/her first time. A good time was had by all.

i bet it was fun, I'm going to my very first comp on the 23rd of this month, I've seen the course and it looks really fun, i think theres gonna be about 20 competitors wich will be fun. i know that first place is gonna be all the entry fees combined, a custom tube chassis, and a set of hammers...I've seen the chassis, its pretty cool.

drop the hammers, most compedators r using the losi's right now. just a personal recomendation.

I sort of feel the same way Joe. The scene isn't that big here either. I mean, there ARE places to race and get together but when I see pictures and hear stories of the outings that Rob, Eddy, an Dom have the ability to take part of, I'm jealous. The scene is so much bigger out there.

Sounds like you had fun and learned a lot Rob. Did you take any pictures?

Lessen, there's a pretty big crawling population in your state, and I'd be willing to bet that there are several guys right in your home town.

He has a set of rock claws and a set of hammers. The hammers that he mentioned were because he was listing the prizes.

Sorry about that. I was EXTREMELY intoxicated when i posted that. lol We had a Wii party last night. Lots of alcohol was consumed.

i only have hammers for now but i do like them, i will prolly get to see alot of claws in action at the comp though, one of the guys (donating the hammers) is bringing like 8 guys with him and they want to do a 1.9 class as well wich will be cool cuz I've never seen a scaler in person.

No, you have a set of rock claws on the way!

i do??? right on. actually i think the hammers that are gonna be given away are m3's so if i win (optimistic lol) i'll just sell them or keep em for wahtever project i end up going with next....????....

Those would be some great tires for the Toyota scaler! LOL!!

the toyota scaler would be cool, but getting that body away from my brother will be the challenging part lol.

There were a few scalers on the course, but a couple of the sections were just to steep for them to traverse.

I did get to witness the problem with the AX10’s stock center shafts. One guy was making his way over a section that didn’t look all that hard when “PLINK”, his front shaft popped off. Run over.

My biggest problem wasn't with the shafts popping off the yokes like most people, but rather with the u joints coming off the outdrive in the front of the tranny. The set screw would be tight and then all of a sudden it would just pop off. I didn't know of the MIP's would fix that problem or not, since it wasn't the actual plastic driveshaft that I was having problems with. I was pleasantly suprised to see that the MIP shafts have completely eliminated that problem so far. I'm thinking that under the torque of the brushless system, the stock shafts would bend and flex just enough to put pressure to flex the u joint around until it got itself out of whack enough to pop off, even with the set screw tight. This also caused the set screw to chew up my outdrive. Now I'm going to replace the outdrives, and if I would have just spent the money on the MIP shafts to begin with I would have avoided the frustration and not had to spend all that money on the outdrives.

Sometimes the easiest looking sections are some of the worst. All it takes is for one wheel to get jammed up, and poof. Like magic you got broken parts. Just ask Charles about his rig "The Missing Link".

I was just going to build my rig for crawling around the yard.

After attending the comp, I am going to give it a shot. It helps that I know a few of the guys who competed.

Now if my Warthog chassis would just get here.

Rob, I had no intentions of competing when I built my axial. I was just looking for a way to relax. After attending my first comp, and seeing how much fun I had, and how nice it was to get thogether with other crawlers, I was hooked. I would attend a comp every weekend if I could. Also, Alpinehyperlite and I have become really good friends, and we attend the comps together, which is another reason that I enjoy crawling so much. It's nice to get involved with a friend and learn about the stuff together and be able to always push each other to further their rigs and their crawling ability.

However, it can be frustrating to have him chanting in the audience "miss-ing link, miss-ing link, miss-ing link", like the cheerleader of frustration lol.
