Hi all,
This is my first post on here. I've been into Electric R/C cars for a few years but have only just discovered Nitro...Wow!!!! is all I can say.
I started off with a Firestorm, and have just bought a Savage X 4.6.
I would like to offer a little advice to all other Firestorm owners about some of my findings, after little use in not particularly rough conditions.
1. Check your Shock Oil. I had one half full, one 3/4 full and the other two nearly full...with no signs of leakage??
2. Check all the bolts which screw into Metal. Some are not threadlocked, and WILL fall out. Most common seems to be the Pullstart bolts.
3. To adjust the slow running screw, remove the right rear body post. You can then easily access the screw through the "slot" in the chassis, opened up by removing the post.
4. Regularly check your head bolts. We have four Firestorms in our "Gang", and alll four have come loose. First sign is Oil all over the Carb.
5. Buy two rear tyres and wheels for the front end. The steering is 200% improved, especially on Grass.
6. Change the steering servo. I fitted just a cheap Futaba 148, and the difference is astonishing.
7. Check your Steering Servo saver regularly. The standard HPI fitted item falls apart regularly.
8. Dont go near any water...ever....The Reciever box has a huge slot in it's rear face, where the cables go in. The slot is about 8mm wide and is the full height of the box.
I hope these tips help other Newbies out there. I'm still learning all there is to know about Nitro R/C, though I have been a modeller for 38 years. (44 yrs old at present)
Regards
Nige
