before i bought my discharger, i soldered a "rack" of automotive tail light bulbs together and put a plug on it. i used 6 all together, and used solid copper wire to make it stiff. problim was, i kept breaking them in my pit box or bench.. if i was more carefull, i'd still be using them today

you can connect something to the battery to discharge it which means try finding something that will keep it going for a long time.. or wut is your time period...I wouldn't recommend simply shorting it. The best way to do this would be to use a small light bulb or a coil or something that will serve as a load to discharge the battery without creating a dead short, else you run a moderate risk of causing a problem with the battery, the least of which might be current leakage, or possibly causing the battery to explode.

well I bought a charger that doesn't have it and I was wondering if I jsut ran it down so it wouln't turn the engine over anymore. Is that good enough?

I just use 10 1157 Automotive tail lamp bulbs wired in parallel. You can actually get some cheapo sockets that are made for under the hood of a car to make changing dead bulbs easier. One of these days, I'll make a new one with that kind of setup.

As for the voltage cutoff, look on eBay for a Deans Blackbox. They've been discontinued a long time ago, but you can still find them around. I use one for my discharging needs; it breaks the connection between the pack and the bulbs when the voltage dips below .9v/cell (good for 6 cell packs only).

Yep good old Deans Black box and 10 1157 bulbs, still have mine in my box and use it time from time, or I just use the discharge function on my ICE Charger, sometimes I just like to be old school...
