I was browsing around looking at all the nitro engines available today.
When I was young, just about the only nitro burner readily available in my area was a cox .049.
Now I see opposed twins, 4 cylinder opposed, 4 stroke(that blew me away), and 5 cylinder radial engines,,,then I ran across the kicker of it all, the rotary RC Nitro engine, I was amazed that it was even possible.

Anyway, which engines have you folks run in an RC(air, water, or land) outside of a single cylinder 2-stroke?
And how did you like them?

I didnt get to drive it, but a friend of my dads has a gas powered V8 in a 1/6 scale Rc car that I got to see turn a couple laps in his garage. Was VERY cool.

A V-8 in a 1/6 scale????
I'll bet that was amazing! Who was the engine made by? or is it a 1-off creation? you know?

Yeah it was something like that but didnt have the blower on it. But otherwise it was almost identical. His was in a Old 30's Coupe though. I'm not sure where he got it, I didnt ask, I was to busy being in ahhh... Thing was amazing..

I ask this when these engines came up in power plants, but no one answered so do these engines really have 1/4 spark plugs for igniting? I looked around but theres really nothing that describes the ignition system or anything.

Ya know I'm not really sure what they had for plugs. Again I was just facinated by the thing and didnt get to get to deep into it. Ill ask my dad if its possible to get the dudes email and see if I can get him to snap some pics for me. One thing I was in awe about the most was the car had full interior, the doors opened, and the body was fiberglass. (His was a dark metallic blue with whiteish ghost flames on it, It was VERY sick)

I had a sub to a mag called "Strictly I/C." Was a bunch of pics and plans on making those little engines. Anything from a "hit and miss" engine to the "V-12 Merlin." Was pretty cool, but way more time, patience, and know-how than I have.

I had heard of a "hit and miss" engine from my Dad. They call them that because they didn't have an adjustable carb. They ran wide open? Got to a certain rpm the ignition would cut off and the engine would coast? It coasted till the rpms got low enough to kick the ignition on.
Well, I thought it was interesting.

I have a Saito .91 in a Balsa USA Eindecker. Can't beat a 4-stroke for scale.
Also have a 3-cyl Saito. Couldn't pass up the deal. NIB for $450. Not in an aircraft, but I have run it on a test stand. It's sweet. Got to get an exhaust ring, an on-board glow driver and a plane for it.

I have been around the diesel conversions. Avoid those like the plague!
Knew they had a Wankel, but I never heard anything good or bad on them.
They also have an aircraft engine where the piston is laying down. RCB? (Somebody help me.) Seems like the sleeve moves with the piston?
