Okay well I think that I got the engine tuned in a little on my evader and its puffing out smoke pretty well and running at 330 F. Is that the right temp?? I know nothing about temp ranges and so just wondering.

Zachary.

330 farenheit is very high. You should get a good amount of smoke while running, and good performance.

What are you using to measure the temp?

Heres another question. I have been looking at the OS CV-RX for a while now and tomorrow I plan to go and get one at my hobby shop and was just wondering if any one has ran them or seen them run and how good the quilty is on them. Will it be a good drop ing on my evader or will it be too much power or what? Any help is great! thanks.

Oh ya and i was reading the temp wrong it was 230 not 330.

The OS 18 CV-R(X) is a well built engine that has pretty good power and very easy to tune. Definitely worth the money. I ran a 15 cv-r(x) for a few years in a xxx-nt 6 years ago and I got 12 gallons through that thing. Sold the truck to a guy that got a few more through it. I had the 18cvrx for a while as well, but basically just enough for break in. The break-in went pretty smooth and power was fairly strong, then I sold that truck too... sold the engine separate. Wish I had kept the engine now. At the time all I had were BB trucks.

how many tanks are you suppose to go through on a proper break in? Whats the best way to do it? I just don't want to mess anything up.

Depends on the tank, engine, fuel... but roughly 4 tanks before you start tuning for performance at all. Through the first 3, your tuning to try and get the temps to 200F and keep it around there.

There are a few ways to do break-in. Everyone has their preference. I do a heat cycle method.

I've attached my method as a txt file.

Also, this is a pretty good read if your new or old to tuning.

In addition to all that, I don't break engines in when the ambient temp is less that 30F. When it's less than 60F, I use chemical hand warmers that you can find in the hunting area at wal-mart. I ziptie a couple to the engine head and it will keep the engine from cooling down below 80F. I used the smaller ones.

Breaking in an engine when it's too cool makes the engine not get to the proper break-in temps and also when it does finally heat up, when you shut it down for the cool down in between tanks, it can cool too quickly and warp internal parts.

Thanks olds thats very use full. I will have to buy a gallon and the engine tomorrow then do the break in that way. Another question, How often and when am I suppose to measure the temp?

Every few minutes. At least during break-in. After break-in, I still check it periodically for the first tank or so during all bash sessions, just to get a feel for what the engine is doing because of the weather that day. Weather changes typically require a tuning tweak. Then I only check it every so often throughout the day of bashing.

Well I got the engine today and broke it in like you said, but the temp likes to be about 180 ish. Really i have one question about the truck and that engine, DO THEY MAKE A WEELIE BAR FOR IT?????? If I even think about hitting the throttle its flying through the air. That truck is wicked fast with that engine.

What's the ambient temps where your at? Your in Washington state right? I'm guessing it's a bit cool outside. You may want to wrap the head with something so you can get the temps up to 210F or it won't expand properly and you will get premature wear.

I ran another tank through it and it runs now at about 230 and runs strong. Is there any way I can get a wheelie bar?

Ya i've really looking at that one, and was figuring as long as its the right width and length i can drill the right holes if they aren't tight already.
