I took a bunch of rc stuff in trade and am trying to get it all working. The ruckus will respond to steering properly but only respond to throttle correctly half the time. What's a good starting point for troubleshooting?

Did that now and forward works each time bust I can't get reverse to work at all.

That's part of the setup mode on the esc. Sounds like you have it set up in race mode which is forward and brake only.

Hmm I can't find any setting for that on the esc, it's a older unit and can't find much info on calibrating it

does it even have reverse?. some older models dint. but I'm sure some will disagree and provide no way to get reverse working.

Supposed to have reverse , took a video, does look like it's in some kind of race mode and only braking

I was also note that I had two radios go bad on me. The throttle potentiometers had lost ability to find neutral 95% (just guessing) of the time, and it would be a crap shoot if/when reverse would work. That's my conclusion that I came up with after swapping in two known good ESC/motor combos and using the same radio/receiver. Let's just say RadioLink, and FlySky have scarred me for life.

I still use my RadioLink RC3S, but it is a bit annoying that I have to walk over to my RC to fix the situation which could easily be fixed with a simple blip of reverse. I got one good year out of that RadioLink radio. One of my three FlySky FS-GT3C radios only gave me two months of service before the potentiometer pooped on my fun. Meh, my Futaba 3PM is going on sixteen years of faithfulness :thumbs-up:.

My situation maybe not like yours, but after weeks of trying everything I could think of, I was telling myself that old saying, "You get what you pay for."

based on your video and the ESC manual, the LEDs are lighting up correct to see that you are commanding full reverse from the rx and the esc is recognizing the command. what happens when you put the tx in reverse throttle mode?

what is the battery status, and did you check that the red lead from the esc is going to the positive terminal on the motor (regardless of what color bullet connectors are soldered on, the motor can itself should be marked). with the tx back in normal throttle mode, what happens if you reverse the polarity going to the motor?

if you have a multimeter, measure DC voltage between the positive and negative terminals coming off the ESC (with motor disconnected) at idle, full throttle, and full reverse (tx in normal throttle mode). these diagnostics will help us determine if it is a motor issue or an ESC issue (a diode or reversing switch internal to the ESC could have died).

It clearly shows on the pic of the ESC Forward/Reverse.

I once burned a receiver throttle channel (2) by connecting an engine sound box backwards. I put the esc on the steering channel and could make it go forward and reverse using the steering wheel.

I went through manuals and pictures online, it isn't like other Dynamites either that have a plug on the outside to program for/rev/brake or for/brake or nimh/lipo and there is no plug in capability to adjust parameters. I think he just has an internal ESC problem
It doesn't appear to have any settings for fwd/brake or fwd/reverse/brake. It just shows in the manual how to calibrate the throttle.

Sorry if my reply was unclear. I am in agreement with you, there does not seem to be any external hardware (jumper plug) or internal software (programmer) way of removing reverse for this ESC.

I was surprised to see this. Every Dynamite ESC even RTR stuff that I can think of has one of the two. Probably a cost cutting measure for a 15a, 15T brushed combo.

OP: if you’re going to swap the ESC may I suggest the 45a Tazer and 3300kv brushless setup? You can get it dirt cheap used as it was the oem equipment on the brushless 1/10 2wds at one time. They are stupid reliable and will bolt right into your esc tray. Just enough power to make that truck really spunky without so much you’re breaking stuff constantly or a useless wheelie machine. A cheap 2S lipo 50c 5000mah or so pairs well.
