Hey guys new to the forum so decided this may be a good introduction for my self and a way to get started making friends here lol my spelling and grammar is terrible I’m extremely sorry for this ahead of time. Also gonna take me a min to figure out pictures uploading

So to get started I’ve been into RC cars and planes my whole life my uncle who raised me his son and I were raised like brothers so what I ever he got me being older had to fix so I fell in love with the modifying and building side of this hobby almost more then actually driving them. Small disclaimer I also build cars in real life so this is my little I get to go inside from the shop and sit and relax hobby.

Let’s get this thread started

I’ve been on the hunt for a cheap UDR for some time now because I know I’ll end up replacing 98% of the truck by the time I’m done so I didn’t wanna spend 1,000 dollars on something that I’m gonna put another 1,500/2,000 into on top of that. So I’ve been hunting Facebook groups market place and eBay for about a month and ended up with a Losi tenacity DP Pro. I ended up paying 130 dollars with shipping and as is condition.

So why the hell would I buy this well I’m dumb and naive and I have 5 kids and my ability to justify well if it comes out cheaper and really nice then buying one new in the box it will be like I got my daughter the buggy she wanted and I saved money…….. don’t judge me I know a lot of you in here daily do the same thing lol

So eBay seller was great shipping was fast.

Looked over it and kinda said screw it let’s see if this even works. All the drive shafts are bent the diffs feel loose and very visibly it’s missing half the hardware that would have came in it the the other half that’s still there is a mix match of what appears to be the bottom of someone’s tool box but for 130 dollars poop it’s still cheaper then buying the Tekin G3 motor that’s in it.

So threw a 3s 8000mah battery I had in it modified the battery hold down to fit the larger battery and in less then 30 seconds it ate the wheel up and spit it out..

So ran to my local hobby town grabbed a full set of proline badlands for a Traxxas slash. Made it half way around the driveway and it locked up a front axle ate up another center hub and doesn’t wanna move guessing it hurt something in one of the diffs.

So grand total now is 130 for buying the car and shipping plus 100 at wild bills for wheels and tires 230 dollars I’m still sitting pretty good retail is 499.99 right now for this brandnew.

So I grabbed the tools after quickly realizing that I can’t just blindly throw parts at this thing like you would a HPi E10 because it addddddddsssssss up quick so what all broke….

Front axle snapped
Realized the front diff case every bolt is stripped out so let’s fix this
Ordered a kit from Amazon from Losi was 15 dollars screw it plus through my digging it’s the V2 version that uses a larger bearing for the input shafts so worthy upgrade.

So ordered complete bearing kit plus the extra bearings I would need to run the V2 diff housings if anyone needs any part numbers please just ask I had to do a ton of digging to make sure I ordered the right stuff so if I can help let me know
Snow ball effect incoming

Next up was axles ordered a set off amazon guessing China power but for 50 dollars and next I’ll have them Friday not next month it’s worth it

All 3 diffs were bone dry so ordered a mix of different weight oils I’ve seen a lot of post about what to run and I’m just gonna go in the middle ground of what everyone said to run lol
Plan is 100k in the center diff and then 50k in the front and 30k in the rear I’ll report back on how this works out for me.

Also ordered the wing and pieces I needed to attach it.

So parts ordered

New shocks from Amazon 40
Dollars plus shock fluid 15
Front aluminum shock mount team Losi upgrade part 9
Wheels and tires 100
New front and rear diff cases 15
New bearings all round 50
New axles 50
New input shafts 25
New rear wing and braces 30
Misc. Complete hardware kit , fluids , new gaskets and rebuild kits for the diffs 75

Total cost is around 500 give or take……
So question is am I a idiot or did I break even

For me I won… now do I wish I could have spent that 300 on baller billet parts sadly yes but I would still have to spend that money if I bought it new plus the ESC and motor and well everything I replaced I tried to find a upgrade for so hopefully this little rig treats us well. I’m not a basher I enjoy building things too much to destroy them. This was my first write up so I’m sorry for my spelling and grammar but I’ll keep

I’ll do a big update this weekend with more pictures when parts come in and i reassemble the whole thing.

Welcome to RCT! Nice rig! you got that thing for a STEAL... Can't wait to see how it turns out!
Thank you I need to do a better job at proof reading lol but thank you figured it would be a good way to show people how to get into this hobby with out needing 1,000 dollars to get started up front.

Awesome rig, feel free to transfer this to the Build showcase thread and grab yourself a ribbon below your name.
Build Showcase
awesome I didn’t know about that part of the forum Ill get on moving my butt over there lol

Wait is there a way for me to move the full thread just over or just delete this one and start fresh 😩

I moved it for you.
It may be too soon but I think I love you Hahahha thanks brother

Bearings
Axles
Hardware
Aluminum front shock tower

Found these gold washers on Amazon I’m pretty happy with how it’s turning out just wish I could find a hardware kit with counter sunk Allen’s the correct length.

Hopefully by the end of the weekend I have this thing back together and I can finally drive it

Does anyone have any recommendations on some good under $150 steering Servos. I have the full Exotek V2 steering and servo arm and mount coming so would like to just replace the servo at the same time and be done with it completely.

I was looking on Amazon and the reviews seem great for this but I’ve been out of this stuff for so long I have no clue what’s a good value and what’s over priced garbage now. So any input would be great guys and I hope all of y’all have a great holiday

Everyone will give you various recommendations. I like Savox, Hitek, and a few others. It just depends on what I am putting a servo in.

For the Tenacity, if you're just bashing around, I'd want something fairly fast. Around .1 or so. And 250oz/in (18kg/cm) torque at least. The more torque or faster speed the better of course. That's open wheeled, so I'd want to run a good servo saver. Tooth count matters so, a horn with adapters for 23t, 24t, or 25t gears, or a servo and saver with the same teeth that fits the Tenacity.

So rather than shop for a brand, I'd shop those specs and put together a few to take a closer look at. The internet is a good tool these days. The forum here is a good place to start, but everyone is different. Others will be along shortly with more advice 😉

Thise suspension components are looking sweet by the way!

Rad thank you sir. At this point I feel like @Littlemotor justified my internal thug life let’s just make it a really nice eBay trash find lol 😆
I use various Amazon servos. They are fine for bashing around. And they're cheap. I've seen the one you showed. Looks decent, and has some good reviews.

Little update… got all the parts installed this weekend and finally got to drive it.

The wiring I couldn’t handle it anymore so went down to the shop and grabbed some heat shrink and braided wireloom and cleaned up the motor wiring.

Also had a buddy try it out “he raced short course” when he was younger lasted all of 5 mins before he stuffed it into a steel pole we have and bent up the passenger front shock and broke the diff case and had to bend the shock tower right but that’s RC cars for you.

Still waiting on all the steering components, and will eventually grab a 4S battery now that I know all the drivetrain is fresh and can handle it.

Is that a Silvia S15 and a Subaru WRX in the background??
The Subbie is a E10 that I converted into a Full WRC build.

The S15 is a MST VIP car I’ve had for probably ten years now and need to give it some love and bring it back to its glory.

I have a little of everything just missing a nitro car 🥺

I also have a massive love hate with axial yeti JRs lol we have to of them for my sons 7/11 and one gets all the extra stock parts and one gets all new metal stuff and upgraded and they both break everytime we bring them out. Getting to a point where I’m gonna retire them but they are a lot of fun to watch chase around
