Here I am sitting in traffic waiting for a light to change and exactly 1:30 seconds later it finally does. While that is not too uncommon nor is adding insult to injury by there being people waiting for the light and the green light street has no one waiting nor even enough traffic to warrant such a long signal time.

Back in the days when I was first learning to drive there were lights that only changed their signals after a period of time had passed no matter how efficient the traffic signal was being to the current traffic conditions. Then later they came out with the sensor lights which would change when they sensed a car waiting on a red light.

In the present day in the Communistwealth we are allowed to have the worst of both types. First they waste the money to buy and bury the sensor but alas, the flaw is that no matter how many cars are waiting the signal will not change unless a certain time period has passed.

Since I am in the Army I can and do get call in to work in the wee hours of the morning. This seems fine at first glance unless you consider the traffic lights. There's nothing more annoying than waiting at a traffic light a 3:00 in the morning with no other cars visible on the road waiting for a light to change so you can make your left turn to get to work.

I mean I do understand the logic of keeping the busier road moving more than the little side street since there is generally more traffic on the busier street than the small side street. What about the times where due to the busier street being more important and the people waiting through two and three lights before they are able to cross the intersection whereas the people on the busier street only had to wait through a single light, if that.

So I am not just labeled a whiner I propose a solution: Just use combat rules where the person with the biggest cajones rules the streets!

ever heard of flashing your bright lights to make a red green? Thats how the Police and Ambulances get it done. I used to drive around Sacramento until the sun came up when I was 17 and every light was green thanks to my brights.

El - here in Orlando, people complained so much about what u just said, that they got it fixed. Now - all minor traffic intersections switch toi a flashing yellow on the major road, and a flashing red on the cross street after 1am - and return to normal at 5am.

I love Orlando and cannot wait to go back! Its not like I drove though, nothing but black Lincoln Town cars from the Gaylord Palms everywhere I needed to go. The one thing I don't like about the East Coast is you guys have so many squares. I mentioned weed to a cab driver and he did hell marry's for the rest of the ride:preachin:

yeah - orlando is always gonna be a 'yahoo' town. what were u doin at the palms? nice hotel - its one of my accounts. i get 1 comp night a month there.

but alas - i only have 5 months left to enjoy this place i call "God's waiting room" before i move to paradise!:breakdown

That bright light thing works. Let me try it tomorrow morning.

I've never heard of that - i always thought they had a transmitter or something. Does that really work?

You might be disappointed to know that the whole flashing light thing is mostly reserved for big city locations. Most small areas do not shell out the dough for the light sensors that make the whole flashy light thing work. So don't freak when nothing happens...except for maybe oncoming traffic flashing their high beams back at you.

I was at a week long conference put on by the people who make the agency management system for insurance. I got to take my old lady and we hit Disney World and the 2 Universal parks. The conference is like an excuse for everyone to take a vacation. I had like 3-4 hr classes a day and the rest was party time baby! The Palms is first rate. The have sick ass resturants inside this huge atreium(sp?) it's supposed to be the biggest one in the world. I was there in mid March and hope to go again next year.

timed stop lights really tick me off. i'm glad i'm not the only freak that times them. the farther you go west the more you see the push button lights which in many cases is better. in some parts of oregon, they time the lights so that you can drive all the the way through town at 20 mph without ever stopping. thats kind of cool, but it can bite you in the ass too if you don't get the timing right.

In our small town of Sparta we have several of those timed stop lights. One of them is so bad that my buddy will get out of the car, press the cross walk button just to get the light to change.

For the flashing your high beams, you have to do it rapid ly or it doesn't work. Just like the police and medical units have the strobe on top of their trucks. But it does work!! In vancouver traveling down mill plain by my work, I do it. Mostly in the early a.m. Or late at night though.

sucks to be you! Every city I have driven in California @ nighttime it has worked on. Maybe what Rob says is right about on the East coast they are different than out here. We are a lot newer out here.
