The big guy is somewhere close to 3' tip to tip 5+lbs.
Now what to do with them?

Got them off of catalina yesterday night. Could've got a lot more but didn't want to stay any longer, and it was getting windy and crowded with other hoop netters.

LoL well over here in hoop netting they refer to lobsters as "bugs" and crabs are just... crabs.

Should I have titled the thread "Oh No! I got Crabs! :depress:"

Also got a crap load of catalina blue perch from 1 1/2 pounds to a little over 2lbs about the max size, since there was nothing good.

Are them considered bugs??? lol.. I was thinking masquito's and poop. I was gonna say if ya like em, Id be more than happy to send ya some Mn. mesquito's in a jar this summer for ya..lol

Jesus! I'm going to have friggin' nightmares knowing those man-eating crabs even exist! I'm with you, Wannarunem, not sure I want to go to the beach anytime soon!

Man! Those things are just unreal!

Ok.. so I got two lobsters down the big guy went into the sauna and the little guy got grilled. Now those big ugly spider crabs... I seem to have under estimated, the medium sized ones shell is like 2mm thick or more. I bent my knife blade trying to hack a leg off. I need more power like a tile saw or something. I dont want to know what cutting the big guys going to be like.

Oh and my the biggest lobster is only 3lbs about Its not unusual to see 10-15lbs as big ones here

This is a 10 pounder(some random one on google)

and now i've sunk to a new low....Spit's calling me out now.
just pokin at ya dude! :D

honestly, those are the biggest things i've ever seen. the biggest crab or lobster i ever saw was in a tank at a restaurant. i thought a 1 lb. lobster was a big one! i guess sharks aren't all you have to worry about with those things out there....

they only hurt when youo try to yank em out of the holes...those whips have barbs on em and they break off in your skin and irritate the piss out of you....you'd almost never see these things while swimming in the water...and if you did they are probably hauling ass away from you.....backwards....LOL....
nice haul BTW....

those Calil Lobsters look more like maine lobster w/ whips instead of claws.....here they are more colorful and get longer whips....the best meat is at the base of the whip........FL spiny lobsters have more of a shrimp taste, What's the flavor on those puppies like.....main lobster or shrimpy taste??

I'd say they taste more like lobster. The antenna on these guys the spines kinda poke you but they don't break off that easily, bu the spines on the main body can do some damage if you pick them up without a glove and they flop around. And after much hacking, slashing, and bashing with a large metal mallet the last two spider crabs were disected and cooked last night.

And for those that dont know lobsters only come out at night, unless your diving and stick your hand in holes looking for them. Although a rather unpleasant and very angry morey eel may let you know that there aren't any lobsters there.

The Pacific Spiny lobster has little meat on it except for a bit at the base of the antennae and the tail. The tail meat is sweeter overall than the Maine lobster, but the texture is better on the Maine lobster, not withstanding the fact that you get more meat with a Maine lobster too because of all the claw meat. We used to keep outr boat in Dana Point Harbor for awhile and when it was lobster season we could hand pick our dinner on the dock!
