Critters

OMF, those are huge! They'd scare the bejeezus out of Dr Zoidberg (Futurama)
Nice haul there SumoDethRat. Seeing how small the Savage looks puts the size of those sea critters into perspective!
In December 2004 I went to the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town. I saw Giant Spider Crabs there. These critters stand almost 3 foot high! No idea what they taste like, the aquarium would be well pissed if I was brave enough to try and catch one in order to sample it.

Ate some of the crab tonight... and it had a strange ammonia smell which usually means the crab went bad. But they were alive when I cooked them and chilled for the night in the fridge. I'm confused? Maybe its just the spider crabs? I dont remember it being as strong last night though and only I can smell it.:ponder2:

Those little hitchhiker guys I found in the nets the next day? Or you talking about blue crab as in becomes soft shell crab? Anyway yeah they hurt, not with glove though, that other crab looks kinda like a santa barbara (brown red one) crab hurts... even with gloves, wasn't paying attention and it got me. Its ok though I got my revenge.

and now i've sunk to a new low....Spit's calling me out now.
just pokin at ya dude! :D

honestly, those are the biggest things i've ever seen. the biggest crab or lobster i ever saw was in a tank at a restaurant. i thought a 1 lb. lobster was a big one! i guess sharks aren't all you have to worry about with those things out there....

they only hurt when youo try to yank em out of the holes...those whips have barbs on em and they break off in your skin and irritate the piss out of you....you'd almost never see these things while swimming in the water...and if you did they are probably hauling ass away from you.....backwards....LOL....
nice haul BTW....

LMAO...I can't stop laughing!

Umm...the biggest that I've seen outside of science class and resturants are the stupid hermit crabs that look like shells and then you dig them out, and put them back all the while trying to figure out why your hand is bleeding and why is stings so much from trying to clean it in plain old salt water!

LOL

the biggest I've seen was when i was on vacation and one grabbed my shorts in the beach. I've was a little to close for comfort.

I caught a 7 pounder when I was 15.....that's big enough for me.....I still have small scars on my forearms from getting whipped by some spiny lobsters down here.....I might go hunting again one day but it's just not a priority on my list these days....

My dad had a 12 pound lobster once, still have the claw to it, we cooked the bad boy up but it wasn't good at all, its was really tough. Those spider crabs are huge! I got a house on the water and I go out on the dock every once and a while and I see those spider crabs crawlin around but they are only the size of the palm of my hand. I like crabs but I have never heard of eating spider crabs.
