Here's the deal.

I want to get a digital surveillance set up for my home.
There have been a rash of petty thefts of lawn ornaments (solar lights, plants etc.) on my block.
It's starting to piss me off.
I have an idea who the perps are, I just need proof.

Anything that works well in low light as well as day time. Something with a 30
day storage.
I'm not educated in the world of surveillance, so any help would be appreciated.

ADDED:
I guess a 3 or 4 camera system will work.

You want surveillance..Find a tweeker..Give him a small bag Every nite and a bat.

I might look into the system that we have at work, but I know that system was around $4-5 thousand bucks. Wasn't looking to spend that much.

so you tring to protect your gnomes?? ha old people..... "get off my lawn!!" lol

j/k ill see what i can dig up, a few shops where i used to work had some that were motion activated and worked at night, it used a pc to save the data. ill get back to you

Even with cameras out there at night Its probable..Not going to do you any good..Enless You have some really high end stuff.like night vision.
Your best bet would be high intensity monition lights..Blinding so they light up your hole block.
To alert every one IMO...

You can have a go at http://www.mcminone.com. I use them to get my small oddball electronic parts; they have a TON of security parts. They also sometimes have decent computer parts for cheap.

I'm sure you can set up a decent system with 4 cameras (motion detection), a DVR that records in a loop, and all the bells n whistles for around $2000 through this place.

I'm a dealer for this company. I just setup a 4 channel system with night vision.
I can give you details on the system if you would like. Cost will be 6-800.00 depending on the hard-drive size and camera selection. Like I said I JUST installed it yesterday so I'm still evaluating the different cameras. I was just finishing up when you called me yesterday late at the office.

Look at the products they have and the prices. I believe my discount is around 30% or so. Once you run the cables its child's play to setup. Took me about 2 hours from start to finish with drop ceilings.

And if its on the lower side what did you get with your system.

6-8 hundred.
I got a 4 channel DVR with 3 mid level color night vision cameras and one High end night vision camera.(Dome style / Out Door) I opted for 250 gig drive that will holds about a month of video at low resolution and about 5 days of high resolution.

It will hook up to your TV / monitor and you can also set it up to view on your computer or over the internet as well. The units are lower end professional quality.

Ill pass on cost to whoever wants them. Look at the site and check them out. I'm trying to get astablished with them and get even better prices.

That's a great price. The back-up camera on my motor coach has day and night optins, using infra-red at night. It works pretty good at night and is real clear in the day. That system is about 2500.00, and has only one camera and no data storage.

When you get some pricing for a 3-4 camera, day-night system for Ratzo and Zandor, could you pass the info on to me as well, Ed? Thanks!

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but I'd be interested as well! May not be a "right now" purchase, but when I get some extra money, I'd like to add this to the house as well!

Ed keep us posted on what you think of the system and camera quality. I am looking for something for my shop. I would also like to be able to connect to it thru the net. Is that possible with this setup? Thanks

So far I like it but haven't has a lot of time to spend on tweaking it. Yes, with the included software loaded on a remote computer you can view it over the web. You can view it over your internal lan or from a connected monitor as well.

There are better units on the market but for the price so far I am totally happy. Its much better then my 10K system I had 6 years ago.
