Did I get a lemon transmission?

Back to fiddling with the new FMS 2 speed transmission. Using the mounting plate from the previous one made for a quick install (thought I need to flip it as it won't clear the truck body).

Next is getting the micro servo hooked up. FMS uses a different jst plug than a standard jst. Looking into this pack from hobbywing. To use the second from the left as a potential adapter to the current ESC/rx combo.

Soldered the JR connector, didn't have tiny enough shrink wrap, so it got this awesome electrical wrap. It's functional, but not pretty.
Now it has proper 2 speed!

I just need to figure out relocating or modifying the ESC tray and battery locations

Highly recommend liquid electrical tape, it's great for small wires like headlights in 1/24 scale crawlers. Or when you get a nick in a wire in your larger rigs, you can just dab it for peace of mind.
Totally! I've got it in my cart for my next Home Depot stop with my hog ring pliers 😉

Ultimately, heat shrink is a lot better, and much easier to use than trying to apply liquid tape smoothly. Especially when doing wire splices. And you can grab an assortment of it really cheap.

If you have a small heat gun that is meant for heat shrink, it makes things even easier. But you can get by with a lighter.

There are lots of them on Amazon. So shop around for mini heat gun.

I have a pack just like that full of heat shrink, just wasn't small enough to cover these tiny wires. I tried cutting my smallest piece longways to see if I could wrap it that way too, but it was tough. Although, I just remembered I do have smaller heat shrink for my car models I could have used...whoops.

Luckily, this isn't a high performance rig, so I'm not too worried about it. We mainly use the SCX24 for indoor fun, but kiddo and I like that little extra speed. I could tell she's get bored with it being the slow SCX24 motor ☺️

It's done! And it works! Tricky trying to relocate battery and ESC around the bigger motor. Took some time to figure out how to do it.

It may be hard to tell, but I took my Dremel to the ESC plate to carve out an opening for the shifting micro servo.

The little guys get pretty squeezy inside sometimes for sure. Ya done good, if it fits in the body and still works, it's a win. :thumbs-up:
