Build Thread David's Typhon 6s BLX Track Basher / Semi-Racer

Man. This is a HUGE milestone for me in the RC world. Sure, 8th scale is basically the same size as a 10th scale SCT, but, its 8th scale! Got it from my buddy I met on reddit and figured out he lives close by so we met up at the track and we both raced and I got this. This was parts he accumulated up from his other builds. Its bout 80% complete. Just need a couple parts and some hardware.

My plan for this is to run this as a big jump/land basher, track basher, and a semi-racer. The closest 8th scale track that does racing near me is 2hrs up northwest and I cannot go there all the time since its so far away. But the nearest track near me is a backyard dirt track. "Just for fun" track. They really don't do any racing but just for fun. Mainly plan to run this thing on 4s since most tracks only limit ebuggies to use 4s max. But @Lukedavis did suggest me to buy 2 3s packs to run it on 6s which ideally makes it cheaper than buying 1 6s pack (if I ain't wrong) and so I can run 3s on the slash/rusty.

Currently what I got:
80% of a Full Typhon 6s BLX. Included GPM aluminum F/R shock towers and some "okay" amazon shocks. He told me they aren't that good but they will get me up and running. I believe wheels/tires from the TLR tuned version so I will keep those as "basher" tires. Will get 2 track tire sets down the road. Most likely a low pro/small pin tire and a semi slick as this track does glue the track/dirt down.
Spektrum smart ESC
Spektrum 2050kv motor w/ yeah racing 40mm fan
CHNL 4.0mah 70C 4s G+ lipo (with 5mm bullets)
Flysky nb4 receiver
Spektrum S652 servo

Now for my personal upgrades / mods. I will do next year since the outdoor season is half way finished and currently I want to focus best on my B74.1 and racing it. Getting better and better.
Upgrades for now:
Hobbywing 8BL150 G2 combo
Better/faster servo
pair of 2 batteries. Most likely going with those same CHNLs listed above
Clear body for my Bomb Pop RC color/paint scheme
2 sets of track tires
And any other upgrade part if I break a stock part.

So yeah. Thats basically it for now. Plan to start wrenching / building Monday night if i get the chance. Build most of it up on what I have now and then once I order Jennys RC I will get the remainder of the parts I needed built onto the car. Hopefully to have it running by the end of September? Only time will tell.

Edit: Yes, I will start a new build showcase once it is built up and ran!

Another edit: Yes I am pretty sure this is a V5 typhon. :thumbs-up:😁

Edit:
Add front shocks into my jenny's list. They do not currently have them in stock at the moment.

Or unless anyone knows if the stock shocks are good/nice? Or a better upgrade?
Someone has good taste in LiPos! G+ series!

Gratz on your new rig!

Build update. Started tonight and got everything layed out. Bout I say 45 percent done. Got rear portion and motor and center diff done. Also the servo. Bounded up new flysky receiver to my nb4. The one I got with this build was a v2 receiver so I had to bind via classic mode in the binding set on the nb4. Servo centered and trimmed and horn on.

So updated my list. Currently in need of
F/R arms
F upper arms
Wheel hexes
Wheel nuts
Shocks

And other stuff I can't remember lol. Videos will show you

No, they probably will fit. He just said that they aren't the "best" but will get me running.

What I need are the shock stand offs. The ones I got are a bit to big for these shock towers. Could drill the tower out as it did include a drill bit. Or I can just get oem ones.

Just buy some aluminum spacers. Hot Racing has a set with mixed lengths. I think Injora does too, but I could be thinking of Integy.

On the 6s Typhon and TLR Typhonk the shock standoffs are pretty weak because the actual nipple and thread for the standoff is so small. I think it’s like 2mm? Larger standoffs are sold so that they don’t break as often. It works well for the regular 6s typhon, but on the TLR typhon the shock placements are all so close together that drilling out the holes essentially results in an oblong oval the entire adjustable length of the tower.

When I ran my TLR typhon I kept a ziplock bag of at least 4 on hand because they would bend and break so often

Hey @DavidB1126 did I read somewhere that you were looking for some race quality tires for this build?
Sure.
Local track is a backyard just for fun track. Heard that the TLR Typhon tires aren't the best.
Owner of the local track glues down the dirt so I seen people use semi slicks or worn worn down tires.

Oh man lol a glued 1:8 track would be fast as hell lol

Was gonna recommend the BVS Supply wheel and tire combo. $45 for a set of wheels, tires, and closed cell foams. But I don’t think any of the tread patterns he has would be good for a high bite track.

I wouldn’t say the exobytes are bad, but they’re for sure not made in the right compound for racing.

If you want a set of race tires for dusty and loamy lmk and I can hook you up. I’ve got a small stockpile from when I raced. Pretty much just out there to have fun nowadays and only run the BVS Tracky or Edge as he’s a local supplier

Been sitting since, haven't ordered parts yet, hopefully I do by Christmas or early next year, and get it running for spring/summer time!

Ill also mix it as a basher, with seeing what my rusty can do, I know I can do some serious stunts with this thing, but to be fair I'm only running 4s, Ill save up for a 6s in the future, or 2 3s packs. But the track only does 4s max anyways.

@luke66 says the Typhon is pretty good on 4s and speed gearing.

Jenny's RC is always on my back.

My buddy that gave me this, he says if he finds anything he will send it over to me to finish it up!, I mean, get it running, its no where near finished lol.

Posted something that if I find any deals later next month I might be getting a 2wd buggy , truck or SCT so that might impact me and plans for this might be delayed if that happens.
