I was kinda wondering if there was any upgrades I should get right out of the box.

Definitely get tires! The rock lizards are crap, and they stink too, lol.

Here ya go::D
I got my Chisle tires on it today and some Proline dress up stuff..

I can't wait to try out the new tires. They are so soft compared to the RC4WD tires. I would of done it today but the wind was blowing about 60 mph and it's snowing off and on.

Congrats on the crawler Woodie, this going slow thing is addictive!

The motor you want...the power and wheel speed is crazy!

The servo you want......333 oz of torque!!!

All my crap is on a budget but I like to read about the good stuff :D

SMaxxin,

Thanks for the links - pretty interesting stuff, like that 7T motor. Two things that concern me... isn't the Scorpion geared pretty far down, wouldn't a 7T one be to much for the tranny? Also the motor looks like it's pretty exposed - I'd be afraid of it even getting a little wet.

As for servo's you brought me to my next question, which is exactly why I didn't buy a servo last night. Do I really need 333 oz of torque in a crawler that's going to be going about 1-2MPH on the rocks? I don't even think I've got that much torque in my 1/5th scale!

IMO crawlers need a stronger servo than most other rc's, lots of sharp turning at very low speed needs a lot of power.....when the front tires or wedged in rocks and you need to turn you'll be glad you have it! It's not necessary but it's nice, you will at least want the 172 oz's that the cheaper one offers.

The puller motor is the cream of the crop, you get power and wheels speed and both are very helpful in crawling. Again this is not necessary but very nice! The 7t is great at low speeds but it can give nice wheel speed even in a crawler. Yes it can destroy your tranny and drive line if your trying to but under normal driving you should be fine. This is not like a 540 7t motor. Did you watch the video and how smooth it was at slow speed? AS for it being open it's no worst than any other motor. The only time I could see this being a problem would be running in mud, the brushes could get mud on them and not want to run. Once you clean it off it's ready to go again. If your planning on running in mud look at the cheaper motors because mud/water will wear out brushes a lot faster.

if i were you woodie i would just pick up a 45t motor, weather it be a integy or holmes (I've had more integy's outlast holmes than you could imagine) and since you are running a mamba, slap a 3s on there and you will have enuff torque and wheel speed. the pullers are nice but over rated, a 35,45 or even 55t on 3s is more than enuff wheels speed and the extra voltage gives you killer torque. on the tires, i would not suggest the chisels or rovers personally since you are running a basically stock setup, since those two tires are so tall you will be the much more ready to tip over, the panthers are imo the best tires out there and are the perfect highth for a shafty with stock chassis. but if you want to stay with close to the same tallness of tire as the stock tires, get some of the old version rock claws, they do very well.

Yeah this body is not my cup of tea that's for sure. I might try to get it painted like factory just for the heck of it but that's it. For an actual running body I haven't decided what I'm going to go with yet.

go with a crawler body, like one of the many jconcepts bodies, or the grappler body. they fit really low, and stay out of the way so when you roll over you can easily flip back onto the wheels with out ever touching it.

If you want to save a little cash on your steering servo and motor go this route:

Hobbico CS-170= a rebadged Hitec hs-5995tg and is only $89.99 all the specs are the same and yes you will want 333oz of torque, specialy when you add weight to your front wheels. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNRN6&P=ML

Integy 45T= good power and wheel speed on a 11.1 lipo at a price that when the brushes wear out you just buy a new one because it is only $18.39 and it will be a little easier on your tranny.

And I am not sure if any one covered this but you will want to upgrade your drive shafts to because the stock ones suck, I popped one off with a 7.2 volt battery and a 55t motor, save your self the head ache and get some MIP Spine Drive shafts, just use a small amout of Blue LocTite on all your set screws when building them and let them dry over night, I have had no problems with mine building them this way.

I've added more to my list of goodies, just wanting for them to arrive now.

EEM Dual triangulation skid plate
EEM motor mount
EEM body mounts (velcro)
Panther Cougar Tires w/memory foam
Integy 45T
TCS upper link plate

I'm guessing end of this week, start of next I should have it all in my hands. In the mean time I'm going to bolt down the engine on my Baja SS to finish it up and then start working on cleaning the bench to make room for the AX10 build :D

i really like that stage killah body from jconcepts. it looks very simular to the artr body. i like how it wraps around the bottom of the chassis. i may be getting that one along with the other stuff..

Nice shopping list WoodiE! Very good choices.

Nope, haven't made up my mind about the servo. Though I'm thinking I'll probably end up with the 333oz servo. Being it's going to be close to a week before I even get started putting this together and then a few days of build time, I have a little time to decide and also let the piggy bank recover. :)

You can tell when you've been in large scale for to long... turn to page 7 in the AX10 manual, open bag A.... tiny little parts and screws. I think the only thing small in the Baja SS build was the two set screws for the linkage and already Bag A in the AX10 is full of them. This should be fun!!

lmao, no doubt man. good luck! once you get it done you can prolly make another one without the instructions in half the time easy! i can crank out two axles and a trans in prolly 15 minutes or so, but it took me like 2 days the very first time lol.

nice goodies u got there

we need build pictures woodie

also woodie we need a thumbs up smilie in the quick smilies right down below the text box

giving you the ax-10 would have been too easy. :hehe:

Nice choice on parts. If you ever get to feeling froggy and want more wheelspeed with low end control as well, check out the motors that jpcustomrcs and holmes hobbies have to offer.

Crawlers are a blast as long as you have somewhere fun to drive. I always got excited, loved the build, drove it for a week and then sold it.

Enjoy!!

sweet! that much closer!
