i wanted to put a bigget brushless motor on my slash 1/16th and would i need a different esc and a different reciever or just a esc or can i just hook up the motor and go on my way?

You would need a different ESC/motor combo and a big block mount You could mount a a 540 motor with big block mount.

i currently have the titan 380 motor and the xl 2.5 esc i was thinking of going dumb big like the
Velineon® 3500 Brushless Motor
with the
Velineon® VXL-3s ESC

To be honest, I have a MERV with the stock VXL 3m (380 sized) brushless system, and on 2s lipos it's plenty of power (and I'm the guy who swore I'd run 3s on it). With a full sized 540 brushless setup, I doubt any of the drive line survives for very long. But as hamz mentioned, they make kits to mount it up if you so choose.

I run my mERV on 3s and it is absolutely insane. I added the center diff just so I could keep its wheels on the ground and not on its lid.
