Ok a house is being built and I need to know if the plot were the house is going it perfectley rectangular.

i know their is a calculation that i can use but I am not sure what it is.

any help would be great

one other thing. we are putting a stake in each corner and runnning a string from one corner to the other diagonaly.

From corner to corner you should pull the same #
That will tell you if your squar or not..

That will do it, Just make sure you measure diagonal like an x.

First make sure your two long sides are exact, then the two short sides are exact. Then you can do the x thing.

rectangles are: 2 pairs of parallel sides, and the parallel sides are congruent (the same) both diagonals are congruent in a rectangle.

Your building a house and can measure to see if its on a perfect rectangle plot?

Stake all 4 corners.
Use a string and run it between 2 stakes on one of the short sides.
Make a mark on the string.
Use the string to measure the other short side.
If they are the same your close to knowing if its a perfect rectangle.

Now do the same with the long sides.
If they are exactly the same then you have a perfectly rectangle.

To sum it up.
If the short sides are exactly the same and the long sides are exactly the same you have a perfect rectangle.

Even if your short sides are the same and your long sides are the same doesn't mean you have a perfect rectangle, it can still be out of whack. The only way to get a true rectangle or square is to measure diagonal corner to corner.
