I just installed new clutch shoes in a Mammoth and it seems to be binding making the truck lurch forward when I pull the start cord. Any help?

Thanks

Did you put it together correctly? Did the CB spin freely on the shaft before you installed the engine into the truck?

You may have mis-shimmed or installed a spring wrong or something.

It spins freely but after a couple of pulls it seems to bind and I have to free it up with my finger. But, then it binds again and when you pull the cord the wheels want to spin.

It is a two-shoe and it's brand new!

What kind of clutch is it, MIP 4-n-1? May need to change the hole position the shoes are in. Also, some shoes have a beveled edge that should be facing forwards.

The only issue I can think of is perhaps the spring is not on the shoes... The other issue is that you might have too many shims on the shaft. Try removing one shim and see if that fixes it.

The spring is on. Would the shims need to be changed when going back with the same style clutch?

nope, shims shouldn't have to be changed, I wouldn't think. Unless you changed bells, and the bearings sit a little 'thicker' (outter bearing sits more towards the tip) on the crankshaft.

You might want to try a SMALL drop of after-run oil on the bearing. Apply the drop, spin the bearing a little, and wipe dry.

The CB spins fine around the shoes but after a pull or 2 it catches or a better word might be engages.
