I was running my car just to tune it up a bit. I let it idle for 3-5 minutes and out of curiosity i touched the clutch bell and felt a good amount of heat that burned me after 5 seconds. Is my clutch trying to engage the bell to early and slipping or is it just the heat from the engine? Any info would be great! Thanx :)

does your car leave the line nice and quick when you mash the gas? or does it sit for a bit and the engine revs up without alot of forward movement?

that definatly sounds like clutch slippage. how much fuel has been run thru your car with that clutch? your clutch may be worn/old...or you may have other binding issues in the drive train. BTW what kind of car is this and how is its drivetrain setup?

checking the clutch isnt so hard. remove the engine....pull the clutch bell and look at the inside of the bell and the clutch shoes. if they appear shiny/glossy then they most likely need replaced. you can jsut use light sand paper to scuff up the inside of the clutch bell and it will be ready to go. new clutch shoes are like 5-10$ depnds on your model.

If you were able to touch it for 5 seconds, that's not hot. Hot is getting burned instantly, something that's very normal after hard running.

A gallons and a half has been runned thru it. I checked the clutch/bell and as u said they were very glossy and smooth, and yes it does "lag" when i hit the throttle thanx for the great info :) i appreciate it! Btw when i do sand around the clutch/bell will it work almost like new? Oh and i have a Kyosho V-one S with 2 speed trans, belt driven, and stock GS15R engine. Rolex thanx for the info as well

My Engine Died out yesterday @ 1:00 am when i took it out with my bro and that pissed me off so when i got home i checked the plug and when i attached the ignitor... nothing....:@... hopefuli today ill get a OS#8 plug.

Once you buff off the shiny, it should perform almost like new. I just buff mine up with a dremel wire wheel. Make sure to take the shiny off the shoes and buff out the inside of the flywheel where they drag.

Keep in mind that the flywheel is connected to an engine that gets up to 300 degrees, so some of that heat will make it to the CB as well. The CB shouldn't be much hotter than the engine block it's connected too. If it is, then you have slippage.

check your shims and berings,my stock motor ate two inside the clutch bell berings and it was a shim and a rear diff binding problem at the same time imagine that. Hope this helps...................James
