Hi guys... spent the day preparing and charging batteries, I put the 8IGHT-T 2.0 on the starter box and pushed the glow igniter into it's hole, the car started for a second but now it will only stay on if I push the glow igniter down, as soon as I remove this the car is dead. I tried to plug the glow igniter into it's charger and realise the red light on the ac adapter isn't coming on, does that mean the igniter doesn't need charging or the ac is dead?

if your getting enough heat to fire, your igniter is good. but it dies as soon as you pull the igniter.... maybe try raising your idle some? heat the engine with a heat gun or hair dryer and it should fire right up. tune it from there and once it is properly tuned it should start right up without a problem

If I just push my hand on the engine and put it onto the starter box without using the igniter I'm getting the same result as with the igniter does that sound right??? Basically light smoke is coming out of the exhaust...

Make sure the contacts are clean on the ignitor. Pop a glow plug into it to see if it lights. If it does, there's a problem with the charger. Most likely a bad connection. Try leaning the hsn a 1/8th of a turn and raise the idle a hair with the transmitter. You have to get the engine to stay running before you can do much else. Preheating the engine will help a lot.

Sorry for the stupid question, but how can I see the glow plug glow? Does it glow after I remove the glow igniter?

It will only glow when it has current going through it. The compression in the engine keeps it glowing after the engine is started. Put it in the ignitor to see if it glows.

take the plug out and stick it in the igniter if glows you know its working

you might just wanna change a glow plug.....easy to do ...relativaly(spelling) cheap and will eliminate one problem lol

Usally if you pull the ignitor and it kills its a bad plug just because you see orange dont mean its good if every coil is not glowing it may not be hot enough to keep it running i have had bad ones brand new out of the package

yep leesy27 is right , but DONT hold the glow plug with pliers by its threads.

It's not necessarily a bad plug. If the LSN is too rich, an engine won't idle after the ignitor is removed. Too much fuel cools the coil and it takes a constant voltage source to keep it running.

What would you suggest would be the best plug to buy, as in top of the range?

I stick to either an O'Donnell 77 or McCoy MC-59. The 59 is better for 20% fuel, 77 is good all around
