Car won't move problem

Well, I feel really stupid.....

A better inspection under better light showed that there was in fact a small rock in one of the gears!

Sorry for wasting everyones time. I guess this is just going to be a big learning process for me! :)

I know my Kyosho's brother!
Sounded like that would be the problem.

Glad I could help.

This is probably a stupid question, but is there a correct position the gears should be in? Like, I removed the engine, and fiddled with the gears and the gears on the car, possibly moving some to different positions from the other. When i put the engine back in and mesh the gears together, does it matter what position all the connecting gears are in?

Wow, i confused myself with that question.

LOL, Ratzo???
this sounds like a lot of car to deal w/.....if it's anything like the serpent 705 it's a beotch to fix.......
BTW good call ratzo... I bow to your wisdom of Road cars.......too many parts for me to like em.......

I'll defer to Ratzo on this particular car, but a general rule-of-thumb is to slip a small piece of paper between gears, spin them a bit then remove. If it "wrinkles" the paper, kind of acordian style, then they're set right, If you have to tug the paper out and it rips, the mesh is too tight. If you can pull the paper out with no wrinkling or rips, then the mesh is too loose (at least on MT's, that seems to be the standard).

It'd wait for Ratzo to give you the skinny on that particular car, though. I'd hate to steer you wrong.

Ratzo, being the Kyosho guru you are, any idea where I can get my hands on an exploded view of the QRC tranny that came with the Field Baja Beetle? Trying to put one back together.

You guys crack me up...lol.

The gear mesh/paper trick will work for him.
He just has to do both gears at the same time.

As for the exploded view on the tranny, no good. Sorry.

No prob amigo. I found that one usin google. It's amazin what ya can find on that thing.

I'm just glad I could help ya ressurect a classic.

Ah crap! How'd I miss that? Just out of curiosity, what term did you search? I tried a number of different ways and all I could find were old reviews of the Beetle.

Again, my gratitude! I truly appreciate it!

I think it was somethin along the lines of "kyosho qrc beetle exploded diagram" (without any quotes). It was on the first or second page.

I search on google all the time... That thing has to be the best web invention ever, with the exception of this site (shameless, I know, eh?).

I think that site has the rest of the docs (manual and the like) to the car as well, but they may be in dutch.

I had another question. If the car is not running, and you push it across a flat surface, should it roll freely? It rolls, but it just feels pretty stiff when i do this. It feels like every revolution it gets more stiff for a bit, becomes loose again, then gets stiff again, and so on. There is also the sound of something lose moving around that sounds like a small rock stuck inside somewhere.

Wixy-It depends on where you are hearing the noise. It could be the clutch shoes are dragging in the bell. It could be the brake is dragging and needs adjusted. It could be another rock or pebble.

If you can pinpoint where you are hearing the sound come from, it'll help us out.

It may just be a good idea to pull the engine off and blow some air around there to get an crap out.

that sound, sounds like a spur thats to close.. i dont know the car but thats what my savage does when the spur it to tight..

Wixy have you ever taken your car apart?
are you willing to try it?
when it wasn't moving did you try giving it gas to see if it started to go???
if your car won't move but the engine is still running it's not a good idea to try and force it...better to shut it down and start trouble shooting it......
can you move those 2 gears on the engine (clutchbell) around on the shaft at all....I mean just stick your finger in there (while it's off) and see if you have play in there.....
