Can LiPos go bad then turn good again? I have this 3s that was swollen last time I saw it, but now it's perfectly flat again. What gives? Is it safe to use?

From my experiences yes. Had a pair of 2 packs get insanely high IRs after a bash session. Few weeks of sitting they went back to normal IR numbers.

Usually also due to high load I'm assuming. Or difference in temperature too quickly.

Also that wiring looks kinda questionable but if it works it works I guess.

If your charger has a IR reader I'd see what the IRs are like. If under like 4/5 milliohms a cell id still send it.

Don't got one of those, but I'll see about maybe putting it on a charger. I do want to see what @Greywolf has to say about it, though.

When LiPo's go bad, they create internal gasses inside the cell. Even oxygen. That's why they turn into a 3600°F flame thrower. If those gases are no longer inside the foil sealed cell, that is likely because the foil ruptured and sent those toxic gasses into the air.

Basically, it sounds like it vented without the fire.

When cells get damaged for whatever reason (overcharging, over-discharging, high current draw/overheating, physical damage, or sometimes just age they can release gases inside the cell(s) which is what causes the puffing. Sometimes those gases are reabsorbed back in to the electrolyte making the battery appear flat again. However the underlying cause that caused the puffing in the first place is still there and the battery is now unsafe to use, even if the IRs are still good.

In summary, Do whateverone else said and pitch it :)

K. Thanks guys. Looks like I'm chuckin' it. Might turn it into a target or something...

Put it in the alley. Stab a knife into it. Let it blow. Have fire extinguisher on hand just in case.

Or the safer way. Salt bath for a couple days and turn it into staples for recycling.
Like the knife idea. But, I've got a few ideas...
YouTube video if I do one 😁
