Well, I'm back. Finally got some time to take the trx-4 out for a bit, get some mud on the tires, etc. Got back from my trip and it looks like my motor over heated...

Got back and it looks like it got so over heated it melted the label around the can. Did also realize I had a ton of stuff wrapped around the axels. Picked it up and it had gained like 5+ pounds! Think my motor is still useable or is it trash? 😩 I was gonna decorate the trailer and then walk with it in my neighborhood 4 of July parade, but it doesn't look like it. It looked fine and didn't smell burnt, nor was there smoke coming out. I've got a lot of clean up to do. Lot of mud to get out. Can't remember if this is from the last motor that burned, but there are burn marks on the body where the motor is

Plug it all up and go full throttle. If the truck goes full speed and motor doesn't sound weird I'd still send it. Just take off the melted sticker. Brushed motors are often cheap to replace if you want to.

I would run it around in the parade dirty! Makes it look more scale!

That's actually why I took it down in the swamp in the first place! The last time I plugged it all up to send it I fried my esc. What I meant by cleaning was my driveshafts and axles so I didn't have a ton of added resistance. The motor is indeed easy to replace but there are no hobby stores within a 2 hour drive of me and it takes more time than I have to ship one out (unless we spend a ton of money). I will see what I can do, but I've got no other motors that would do well, and I have no spares.

This could be WAY WORSE!!!
This could he MY motor!!! 😲

Some brushed motors are servicable. You can get in and give the bearings some lube, clean up the contacts. Sort of restore it. 👍

Some brushed motors, you overheat until they catch on fire and then you toss em. 🤷‍♀️ 😎🤣

All the stuff you had wrapped around the axles likely put a lot of extra strain on the motor causing excessive temps. Brushed motors seem to run kinda hot anyway. If it was still working normally when you stopped running it, then its likely fine. Shortened its life span for sure though. At least those motors are cheap. It would be a good idea to stop every once in a while and check temps, especially when playing on rough terrain.

You only say it looks like it overheated. Given your pictures, description of events, the size of the can, and the fact that it's an RC4WD motor (or some knockoff version), I would agree...she definitely overheated. But you never stated whether it still runs or not...does it run?

I ran the same motor in one of my son's trucks for a while and it always ran hot. It was actually the worst brushed motor I've ever used. The stock Titan motor is much better.

Well, I certainly don't care if the motor runs hot as long as it still runs. I'm just concerned that I'm gonna fry my esc again. Last time I killed a motor like this (Titan 21t) it shorted back to the esc and fried it. I had a much better experience with this rc4wd motor than the Titans. Those I really didn't like. It did run and drive all the way from my house, too the creek, and all the way back. I'd say it runs, but I'll "test" to make sure. Last time I didn't put the battery in it so I could easily disconnect it if we had problems. Well, a shorted esc later I was happy I thought of that. That's 2 escs that have been killed with that battery! To your point Xjtorc, you're right, it LOOKS like it overheated. I know my motor runs hot always, but melting the plastic wrap around it? That's another level of overheated. I'll test it soon and let you know the verdict.

I think you are starting to understand why ppl upgrade from stock electronics, gearing...
Run it til it blows up and then upgrade the whole system.
I don't know how far you'll get with ANY system when you double your truck's weight in mud and don't change anything else tho.

To me, it sounds like a lot to ask of a stock set up, 3 s rated or otherwise. 🤷‍♀️

I mean fair. I think it's gonna make it through the parade, and I'm gonna send it till something breaks. Don't know what motor I'm gonna get next, but it isn't a rc4wd, I'll tell you that. I cut the weight in half by cleaning all of the crap out from the axels. Body still looks cool tho!

Personally, I like the hobbywing axe combo the best out of what I've tried so far. The esc automatically senses load on the motor and maintains rpm wether its on flat ground or going up a steep incline.

A lot of people seem to like the hobbywing fusion stuff which is a motor with the esc integrated. I like that it saves space but pI've only tried that in a 1/24 crawler and have limited experience.

Castle Creations also makes some great crawler esc's but I've had better luck pairing them with Holmes Hobbies motors. Seem to perform better at low end than the castle motors I've tried.

There are tons of options out there and to be honest, most crawler guys on this forum have longer term experience than myself. I've only been playing with crawlers for 3 or 4 years now. You'd be better off starting a new thread asking that question to a larger audience, but I can assure you all of the options I mentioned above are excellent choices.

this is the bestesterest motor for general use in my opinion, i have em in 3 seperate trucks, a beast of a motor, and it frees up esc real estate, absolutley love these motors

What other brushless systems have you ran Majin? How do they compare to the fusion pro?
I've ran a castle motor, was great but fast, not for cralwing, I've ran a few holmes hobbies, no real complaints other than the sounds they make, I've ran amazon basher motors and burnt em up,
after hopping on the quickrun train its just my favorite

Holmes motors do have a very distinct sound. I've yet to try a 1/10 scale fusion series but I likely will. I'm just not sold on the 2 in 1 yet.
