Hey guys,

Where is the best place to buy a car?

Is it online? (safety wise and price) or a store?

For the most part an actual hobby shop would be better, as long as they don't mark up the prices and are within a reasonable driving distance. If you have one close enough, go ahead and see what they stock parts for this is a good thing to know when getting a new truck. Plus if you buy from an actual shop, again depending on the people in the shop, they are more likely to help you if you have any issues or just need advice. When comparing prices don't forget to take into account the shipping and time you have to wait.

If you don't have a shop close by, online shopping is pretty safe, aslong as you use a reputable site. If you do have to shop online it may be better to figure out the most common parts on the truck that break and order some spares so that you can save on shipping as well as limit the down time if something breaks.

if you do have a LHS check what parts they stock. in terms of what brand do they mainly stock everything for, traxxas, losi, HPI etc etc. maybe lean toward the brand they stock if there cheap. just just online to see what prices are like everywhere else. if there double the price for everything online is the way to go. and i know i live in australia and i can get parts shipped for 15-30$ and they will be here in 5 days from day of order with fedex.

1) what are the parts that are more likely to break?

2) any online store that you can recommend?

3) I checked hobbytown store and they don't have the car I am thinking of getting (firestorm 10T)

Thanks...

Thanks for the input...

Lol... I just made two phone calls. One, to Brooklyn hobbies and the other one for hobbytown...

None of them had the FIRESTORM 10T

:( they work mostly with traxxas.

Am I on the wrong side of the road going with HPI? Is it that bad that they are not famous as TRAXXAS?

The number one most likely part to break is probably gonna be front arms but it varies from kit to kit. HPI is probably a little bit better in terms of quality but Traxxas is good as well but they are generally stocked more because they are more popular. Mainly because theyre prices are usually a little lower than other hobby grade manufacturers and they have a great marketting department :)

If you want to go with Traxxas The Rustler is basically the same thing as the firestorm if I'm not mistaken.

Ok, thanks for your input. I will order some extra parts (front arms and such).

Concerning the rustler, I heard it brakes a lot. The Fire storm is stronger, but like you have said, the parts probably are not stock like the TRAXXAS...

One thing that you need to remember about Hobbytown USA is that they are a franchise and can carry what they want within reason. If you want to buy from Hobbytown, you might try looking at one not in your area and see if they offer online sales and ship to your address. I know for a fact that the store in San Antonio, TX does carry the truck you're looking for and do internet sales.

Oh, that's great! I will take a look now...

I have also found "A MAIN HOBBIES.COM"

I have owned both a rustler and the firestorm and can say they are both roughly the same durability wise. I have busted countless a arms, front bulkheads and shock towers on the rusty. The same goes for the firestorm, a arms front bulkheads and smoked the stock esc. Either one you choose you will need a few choice upgrades in order to make them a durable basher.

The Rustler has a few weakspots in it ouot of the box but then almost all kits do. Upgrade the rusty with RPM front arms, front bumper, Steering knuckles, castor blocks, and rear axel carriers and it will be tough as nails. All that costs about 40 bucks or so shipped.

If you want to look at online stores the some of the bigger reputable places are http://www.Amainhobbies.com
http://www.towerhobbies.com
http://www.horizonhobby.com/
http://www.nitrohouse.com/
http://www.stormerhobbies.com/
and for lipos I order gensacearespammers from http://www.hobbypartz.com

i recently converted my 2wd stampede into a rustler vxl...in my opinion the rustler is tough as you'll get out of the box on a 1/10th scale rtr...all of them have a few weak links...but i have been very impressed with my rustler...i have hit stuff wide open, i have tumbled and cartwheeled it to no end, hit stuff flying through the air at full speed and it just takes it...i have broke 1 front arm and a top link and broke the mounting tap off the esc...all of which in horrible wrecks that i was expecting much worse...i recommend the rustler myself...

Thank you very much...
I will check it out, and if I will get the rustler, I will aim to the parts you just mentioned...

dont fix it till its broke....

if you can , have a local shop near you that has what you want. price doesn't matter cuz if u need something on the spot ull pay the extra 20%. then if you have a few days where you can leave it be order online and save some $$$.

The thing is, the stores here in NY don't carry the Firestorm 10T, so if I buy a car in the store it will have to be TRAXXAS and if it's traxxas, I will probably go with the rustler :(

I own a firestorm and love it, key weak points were a-arms and stock brake disk, replaced with rpm arms &a woven carbon fiber brake disc traxxas puts a bad taste in my mouth when I have to flip through 20+ pages of their adds in an rc mag
