Friday night I picked up a nice little bubble tip anemone for my SW tank. He did ok except he wanted to get over to one spot in the tank I didn't want him in. Last night I checked on him before bed and all was well. I got a phone call from work about 2:00 am, checked the habitants of the tank and all was good. Got ready for work about 8:00 am and found him sucked into the intake gaurd for my main filter. I'm really kinda bummed about, not cause it's like flushing $30 down the toilet (literally), but it was like he had some sort of deathwish or something. Besides that my clowns were starting to butter up to him. Anyway, just airing things out, thanks for putting up with me.

Hey man sorry to hear that I had the same thing happen to me with an Angel fish I bought for my daughter who,s name is Angel anway he found his way up the intake guard I too was very bummed sorry to hear about that and hope you have better luck next time.

30$ bucks is not to bad I just got rid of my 225Gallon oscar tank. Every 2 weeks I had to dump 200 feeders in to it.. And they were gone in 3 to 4 days

Every time I put a fish into my tank it disappears. :(
My Jack Dempsey keeps getting fatter.
Any clues?

Try adding new additions in at night, or re-arrange some of the aquascape.

How much work is it to have a salt wtare tank? I've always wanted to convert mine over to one, but I tend to be all gung ho on them for a little bit then lose interest and they kinda lack some attention...lol.. Not enough to die, but still.. So I was just curious. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. That sucks bigtime. And yeah $30 doesn't seem to bad, but when ya got a big aquarium and then this one little $30 fish in it, it seems expensive.. Esp. if it dies after not having it very long.

Salts not as much as it sounds. If your really interested I recommend the book "The Concientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert Fenner. I hate reading but there's lots of pix, LOL. Really it's not bad reading, and you'll find yourself referring back to it all the time. How big is your tank? The larger the tank, the easier it is to stabilize the water. Once you get setup and the tank "cycles" it's not too much effort. After you cycle and you start to add fish ( a little at a time, like one a week) then you can cut back on water tests. If you've got a good skimmer, cleanup crew, and non-carnivoirs you can get away with monthly water changes of about 10%. My daughter loves it, and she helps me feed the fish and I tell her she's in charge of looking after them when I'm out of town. Fish aren't cheap, but if you take care of the tank they should live for a long time. Given proper conditions, an anemone can outlive you. I enjoy sitting there and watching what goes on in there. I sneak down there too when the lights are out and shine a flashlight in there, you'd be suprised at the tank inhabitants you might never know you had. Anyway, if your interested in some info, drop me a line.

Sorry to hear about you anenome.

Saltwater tanks are almost constant maintenece to keep them looking great, maybe my tank was just too small 55 gal. Anyway there was always salt deposits running down the glass, and had to be cleaned almost daily. You need special filtration systems, undergravel filters, etc. You have to maintain the propper salt levels at all times. The algae growth is tough to keep up with. They are well worth the work, if you have the time, but it is considerably more work than a fresh water tank. And the more exoctic the fish are the more work it is. I now want to set up a Florida eco system tank, turtles, largemouth bass (little ones), crayfish. I have been thinking of setting up a bass tank for a while now.

sorry to here that i have 3 turtles here named henry pepper snaper they are my pets they are 8 inches long and i am very carefull to put my hand aroung there head lol it takes a lot of care to take care of them and i put feeder fish in for the turtles eat them lol and the stupid fish go up to the turtles around thre head lol curtis

Man that sucks, Sorry to hear about the anemone...I had a roomate once that thought it would be cool to get me a new fish for my tank (nice thought) but he got it from deathland (petland) and just dumped it in my tank as a surprise......I had lobster, parrotfish, clownfish, and starfish...... tank died in 2 weeks never started again....125 custom long tank dowwn the tubes gave it to the other roomy and he filled it w/ sewer stinkin poop filled red eared sliders, 10 of em.....we finally kidnapped em and set them free in the bronx zoo turtle pond..LOL one did turtle wheelies when he hit the pond.......how's the rest of the tank doing?

i knpow how it feels to loose a fish, i lost my Jack Dempsey last month he startd to grow fungus around his body and his lower jaw slowly disappeared, i tried to save him but i guess it was too late now i have to big ugly oscars. i used to have a Red Bely Pacu but he got out of control and we gave him to my fathers job (they have big tanks in that nursing home) if i had to start my 55gallon tank over i would just get a male and female Jack Dempsey and breed for some nice pocket change.to me they are more colorful and appeal better than some big orange and black oscar or the other albino one.OR i woulf get 1 blue and 1 red parrot fish. ever since finding Nemo I've wanted a clown fish and a saltwater tank.

plaidfish,
dont ever set anything free in my zoo again.

I was never a fan of the dempsey. Any time I had one of those or a convict, it's all I could have in my 55G tank. Oscars on the other hand lived fine in two's... but then I wanted a community tank and was tired of maintaining 3 tanks (two 30's and the 55). I gave the oscars to a local pet shop and they put them in their display tanks to not sell.

But now I'm getting the itch to get another oscar... although, my wife would kill me if I got rid of "her" rainbow sharks.

My wifes betta tank has ich.... good joke though!

I had a tank, she wanted a tank, but nothing to big, so she has one of those cheesy octagon 2 gal tanks with a betta and a couple little goldfish... I think the goldfish has ich. They are turning black.

YOUR ZOO?!?!?!
hey they were prime specimens No diseases.....the zoo was a better place for them......do you work there?

Fresh water ich and marine ich are a bit different but pretty much a pain in the ass. I would think in your oct tank you can treat right in the tank. With marine ich you need to remove the fish to treat if you have liverock, inverts, etc.

As far loosing the guy, luckily my wife and daughter were gone this weekend at grandma's so my daughter really didn't know he was there, so she won't ask what happened to him. I had three, three spotted damsels, that were a pain in the ass and I got rid of them one night while she was sleeping. She still asks where they are, and all I can tell her is they're in the witness protection program.
