Well I started building my first baja, and I'm starting to think it wont be my last or only lol. So far so good. I picked up a number of hop ups yesterday so I could start my build and its turning out better then expected. Here are some pics of what I have so far.

This thing is a blast to build, I'm just taking my time and enjoying it.

I never realized how that shock tower is built! That's a complicated little bugger! Even with all that aluminum in there, there is still plastic to act as a cushion.

I'm almost glad I don't have anywhere to run something that size... or my "needs" would become much more expensive.

I know what you mean olds! Nitros are cool for the parks and stuff around my house, but there just to small when I go to the desert. So it was time to upgrade lol. I can't wait till this is finished. Friday I'm going to pick up what will hopefully be the last of the parts I need, and that will be another 250$ lol. Oh well what can you do.

The cool thing though. I went over to the guy that I bought this sucker off of yesterday to shoot the chit, and this dude walks up and asks if we need any detailing service on are 1;1 cars. While he was standing there my friends 2 baja's were sitting on the ground(mind you his are all aluminum bling just beautiful rigs) and the guy was like is there any market for carbon fiber parts for these thing. We just laughted and were like ya! So after talking to him he got really excited and called his brother who was in the carbon fiber industry and started to plan on building parts. We gave him a bunch of stuff to coppy and make proto types of and he was off like a dirty shirt to his brothers shop. He said that beings were helping him out in this he would give us first run of all his parts to try out if we helped get his name out there when he started selling stuff. So if things work out, me and my friend(oneratbastard) will be geting all kinds of carbon fiber goodies. Hopefully!

The carbon fiber bodies I saw were cool... or were they kevlar... hmmm. Cool nonetheless.

I have no desert nor any sand. All I have are parks and a smallish skate park. I see no baja in my future as much as I wish for the need.

I have not many places to run, except for a couple of fields, but I'm picking mine up tommorrow. Yay.

Stock SS shocks 35w up front, 40 rear, ramtec springs all the way around, GH piggy backs, with outerwears. For what ill be doing seems to be the best set up.

i would forgo the GH, they are ok, but more look than funtion. Take a look at the Threshould Remote ressie. they are a TRUE upgrade to your shock system and offer more than just a neat look as they are fully adjustable and functional purpose built design. if you do anything over a small bumps i would also recommend you get some Phatdad Shafts for your shocks. the ss shafts seem to be not bending, but the molded ends are breaking off, forcing a new shaft install. should you have a problem with the bottom mounts on the Phatdad shafts, you can buy just the new end and screw it on.

Ya ill give the GH a chance though. I bought the resivors, ramtec front shock mount, engine cover, turtle bell, front and rear turtle braces, gas cap, braided line, filter cap, GH rear arms, and shock wears for 100bucks. So I'm not loosing anything trying them.

Little update. Got my white bead locks, and wing today. Also picked up a turttle rear chassie brace. Last night I had a idea that turned into a great one. Make my own turttle drive cups. So today I picked up a couple bearings cut the inside races, and welded them to the cups. They look just like them and it only cost me 12 bucks! Yes win lol! So next week ill do the outter cups too just to make them as good and strong. I also covered up the fly wheel vents today on the motor and it looks sweet. Here are some new pics.

So this weekend if I have time it looks like I can complete my build I'm excited to get home from work tonight lol. More to come!

Where did you get the gas cap?

Where did you get the gas cap?

I got it in the big parts lot deal from the guy I bought the car off of gave me. I belive jimmy4fingers was the owner before that, because I'm thinking these were all his parts. Anyway, the name on the top says SSR, and below that says USA. I have no clue who sells them, I have only seen a few like it. I like it, bulky and unique.

So I think the JB is set up on the motor and looks killer. I proved my dad wrong because he said using jb weld would look dumb and I woulnt be able to remove the guards if needed. Well I see no reason to remove the sheilds and this engine will be replaced by a esp 30.5 reed case as soon as it goes. :p: This baja thing is like crack more then rc lol. I could probally pull a all nighter and get this done but unfortunatly I have to get up in oh 2 hours to go fishing. :\

The Baja is lookin sweet bud. Wish we were closer and I would take out my Baja SS with you. And you are right. They are a lot of fun to build and dammmmmnnnn addicting. LOL

:)

Well some more pics, almost done with this sucker. I'm thinking this friday ill start breakin. I was kind of mad though, my ss pipe was all scratched up on top? I kind of buffed it out, good enough to last till I can save up for a GBE side bleed lol. Anyway more pics!

Man it's a baja, you dont have break in. You run a rich tank through it and get on your way lol.

It's coming together nicely, I have a lot of the same parts that you've got on yours sitting on my shelf. I'm getting motivated to start a full on show build pretty soon.

You've built a great rig, and I'm glad to see you've moved in from nitro. You might not think so, but you'll move on the first time you start this one :) My baja build was by far the best build that I've ever done!

Charlie I'm so excited for friday, thats when I pick up my servo and battery. I'm also thinking about picking up a enclosed clutch housing, but I may just preorder the turtle racing clutch set up thats coming out. It dosent sit right in my stomach that the bell and shoes are just right there in the open, I even thought of a way to cover the stock one with lexan, but aluminum is much more pretty lol. I think ill probally get that turtle set up next week, this week I'm just going to get my spark plug cover, and go piss off some people at the park.

P.S. My wing came in today from DDM, I must say that they have there chit together when it comes to shipping things, called friday, recived monday, thats pretty frigin fast. Hopefully next time things work out.

"piss off" people at the park doesn't cover it with that loud ass pipe that you're going to be running. If it's in the city limits, and it's a regular park, leave the keys in the truck because if there's people there for reasons other than off road vehicles, they will be calling the cops. It sounds like someones running a 2 stroke dirt bike in the neighborhood lol. I live in the country so I'm blessed to not have to worry about it. I do live in the city limits, and my neighbors call the cops, but since we own the biggest chunk of property in the city limits (only 60 acres, but its a really small town lol), we also pay the most taxes, and because of that we pretty much get away with murder lol.

Oh and I wouldn't sweat the clutch too much, I haven't had any problems and I run mine through leaves and sticks and all kinds of stuff sometimes.

I never realized how that shock tower is built! That's a complicated little bugger! Even with all that aluminum in there, there is still plastic to act as a cushion.

The engineering that went into the design of the Baja by the HPI crew is truly incredible. I just couldn't believe it as I wasputting it together and then looking at it once it was assembled, the way that they designed different parts to brace each other for extra support and things like that is amazing. There's no question that it's the most durable RC that I've ever owned, which surprised me because when this thing does a barrel roll at 30mph or hits head first and dives end over end, its taking 20 ounds worth of weight combined with excess speed on every hit, and it just keeps bouncing back for more.
