what would be the best brushless system for under 180$ for a stampede xl5? i was looking at the traxxas vxl or castle creations or even a hobbyking system but i am open to anything. i am looking for alot of speed for bashing around to neighborhood. please help there are just to many choices.

You can't go wrong with either the vxl or castle!

I would get the traxxas, not adjustable, but if your just bashing, IMO its the best for what you will be doing.

how much speed is the question. just remember that if you go too far you wont be able to keep your drivetrain intact without some major upgrades..

Vxl is insane on 11.1v but you won't be able to keep it on the ground.

once the wind gets under the body it will flip over.

My vxl bandit has the body that wraps around and its very very hard to keep it on the ground. I clocked mine at 58mph

I would still go with the Castle System. The motor you posted is a 2pole and the Castle Creations Motor is a 4pole. IMO go with the Castle Sv2 or Sv3 Combo. The Sv3 is waterproof. But the castle creations system is ~$110 and the Hobby King is ~$100. I would spend the extra ten dollars.

here it is with the 5700KV on 3s.

here it is with the 8.4v NiMH battery

what about the castle mamba max pro? has anyone had luck with it with the
xl5 tranny?

That would be a little too much IMO without severe drive train upgrades to Handle the power! If you have the money do it, but for simplicity and it is much cheaper the Sidewinder is the way to go.

Theres no point in putting a MMP in a 2WD Stampede. its overkill. Although it wouldnt hurt anything if you did but most all your 1/10 scale motors are going to be limited to 2 or 3S so whats the point. The BEC in that turnigy ESC blows goats. Its linear (although most built in BECs are) and its only 5V instead of 6V and its only rated for 2A. Id want at least a 3A BEC in a kit with a single servo, RX and possibly a motor fan. The motor you posted is crap compared to a Castle 4pole motor as previously mentioned plus that trackstar is designed for a SCT using Mod1 gearing that has a 5mm bore. You Pede has 48p gears and a 3.2mm bore.

i think i will go with the castle sv3 but what motor? there is a 4700kv,5700kv and 7700kv. but i want something i can run on 3s with no problems and on ebay if you look at the pics of the motors it says 2s max on the motor. but it says 3s in the description for the combo.:\

I would do either the 4600kv or the 5700kv. Anything more would be uncontrollably fast!! :)

what is the difference in lower kv vs higher kv? is it rpm, tork or what? and what is the differnce in 4 pole vs 2 pole?

You want the 3800kv if you want to run 3S. The lower the KV the less RPMs but the more torque you get. the higher the KV the less voltage it can handle and lower KV motors can be made as fast as some of the higher kv motors through the use of taller gearing and or more voltage.

The Castle setup thats best suited to a 2WD Pede would be the sidewinder 3800kv combo. you can run that on 3S although you'll have to watch your gearing and your motor/esc temps.

You can get more detailed info on basic electrics from my multi part video series "Electrics 101" I go over pretty much everything you would ever want to know about electrics, at least starting out. I talk about KV ratings, can sizes, poles, gearing, ESCs, BECs, Lipos, and all kinds of other stuff.

Higher KV=More Speed , Lower KV more torque.

4 pole has more torque than the 2 pole

i have been looking at alot of videos and it seems to me that the traxxas vxl is just as fast or faster as the sv3. and on the video text alot of people say the castle motors are getting very hot on 3s. why do they rate the esc and motors for 3s if they get that hot on 3s? then you look at the mamba max esc motor combos and they come with the same motors. why do they have an esc that is rated for 6s and you can barely run 3s with the combo? i just dont know what to do any more. now i am leaning to the vxl system just because i know that will hold up to 3s.:\:\ any more info or input?

Well for your budget I would check out dynamite's FUZE brushless systems... I got a FUZE system for my Losi XXX " My system $169.00.. I went with there 3800KV motor & ESC combo & running a 4200Mah 11.1V 3 cell lipo in the Rig & my XXX is crazy fast.. IMO for your Stampede I wouldent go over anything 4000KV your Rig is already light & like some of the other guys said will be overkill.......:)

i just want it to be fast and be able to handle 3s battery with out getting really hot. i have a erevo that does almost 60 mph and i would like the stampede to come close to the same speed if possible.
