I'm not quite sure what I got myself into but I took the big leap into the RC helicopter world.

I got lucky due to the fact that there is a hotbed of fliers close to me as well as 2 LHSs that are great. After a lot of research I purchased a Zoom 400 (Showgun) http://www.helihobby.com/html/zoom_heli.html and all the trimmings. I got as far as reading all the manuals and setup guides last night. I had nightmares about them. I sure have a lot to learn just to set it up much less learn how to fly it.

I got the JR XP6102 http://h1071118.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=JRP6645**

Got a Li Po bat and charger, Futaba GY240 gyro, servos, mini Deans, loaded antenna whip and an empty bank account.

HELP ME!!! :D

Dude, you're helpless. hehe :) j/k

Congrats on the purchase(s). one of the guys at my LHS was showin me a mini heli not too long ago. Pretty nifty stuff. I've always been fascinated with helipcopters even as a kid, way before I got interested in R/C's. I have no doubt I'll get one someday.

Ed, remember one very important thing. Balance is EVERYTHING. Before you try to get that airborne, make sure you check all balances. Make sure the main blades are balanced. Make sure the whole head assembly is balanced. Then check your fore/aft and left/right balance. There's nothing freakier than watching a heli start to shake itself apart just after it gets a foot off the ground.
Oh, and like I advised before, get a simulator. Saves a lot of money in broken parts....

Congrats on the egg beater.
You DO have G2, right? Spend a lot of time on it. It will make flying the real thing effortless. When you're ready to step up to a nitro heli, I might be ready to sell mine.

I agree with the guys, get a sim!! It made a HUGE difference when I started flying my .30 size heli. They are a blast to fly. One important thing, dont get in a hurry!! Take your time and you'll be fine.............goodluck and enjoy!!!!

Thats a sweet copter looks like it would be lots of fun!!! I would like to get something that flys someday plane/copter anyway good luck with it .

I have been practicing on my sim all winter long. I can hover any of the units and am great at crashing them as well. The LHS I got it at asked me to bring it in before I tried to fly it so they can help me get setup properly.

I had to order a Battery extension tray and a boom mount for the rear servo and gyro. If all goes well I should have it ready by this weekend.

Well Eddy, you gave me the bug. So I finally ordered up the parts to fix my Dragonfly. Now it's time to hit the sim until the parts arrive....

Training wheels, and Curtis Youngblood's book. Balance everything, and take alot of time adjusting the blade tracking. Dash all hopes of flying arround for a few months and concentrate on hovering (alot).

That heli looks badass for a beginner, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it pretty quick.

Oh, one last thing, get a pitch meter, and be sure to get the throttle/pitch setup right before you go flying. Hit me up if you have any other questions.

Make shure your throttle is not reversed. The first time i flipped mine on my throttle was reversed so no throtlle was full. You do the math...

The simulation you guys are talking about it that for your Pc??? I would like to try one out sounds intresting

Congrats BIG guy.
With you and my self being new flyers no one is safe. Just stay out of my air space and we will be OK!!!

Real Flight G2 Computer Simulator. About $200 on Ebay. Also several add on discs available.
Electric or nitro planes plus electric and nitro helis.

Thanks for all the tips guys  Keep em coming.
I got the servos installed and need to hang install the gyro / servo mount for the boom come in before I can do much more.

I need to open the back of my radio and convert one of the gimbels to heli mode. I'm sure the radio will eat a lot of time getting to know it. The LHS gave me all the mix data to enter in.

Back to the sim.......

How are u going to fly when u have no time to wipe ur own ASS! lol

Have fun !

Congrats on the purchase. You gonna show us the build like you're previous kits?

check out RADD's School of Rotary Flight i found it very helpful when learning to fly my mini. if you are looking for any sites that sell hopups for your chopper lemme know because i have a seperate list of heli favorites ;-)
