Best shocks for the price?

Hey guys how are you today I have a quick question.

What’s the best cheapest aftermarket shocks for my traxxas slash?

Don’t want traxxas big bore shocks there a bit pricey same with the GTR shocks.

Maybe something on Amazon that’s a good bashing shock that doesn’t burst open after every jump

The shocks off the Losi DB Pro should fit, they are pretty close in measurements, when Jennys rc has them in stock they are only about $40 for both sets.

All of the cheap aftermarket shocks are not that great to be completely honest, I spent days searching for good ones and they all had issues like leaking, breaking parts of the shocks, shafts bending really easy, springs too stiff, springs too soft, holes in the pistons mismatched ect and were for the most part just bling parts for a shelf queen.

Unfortunately the best cheapest shocks I have found are the Traxxas GTRs with VG Racing springs. But you are still looking at around $95 once everything is said and done.

If you look around on eBay they also have blue and green. XX Long are for the rear, long are for the front.

I do not believe there is a difference in spring rate between the colors.

Stay away from the big bores they are a waste of money, they are 100% the same as the stock shocks but with aluminum bodies and caps.

A good set of aluminum shocks will run from $40-$50 and up. You want a adjustable shock. And then play around with the oil and springs. How big of jumps are you sending your slash?? It's really just a racer really. Not really made to be sent off kickers... what wt/type of shock oil are you using? If your blown caps off could be to thick of oil. Or just bashing the sh*t out of her.. lol

The VG racing springs are awesome. Got sets of them on all my bashers. From 1/10th too 1/5 scale trucks. Love em great springs. Well worth the money

If they are of cheaper quality I’ll add limit straps to keep them from pulling apart. I got them on 3 of my rigs. They work wonders. My lmt use to have the rear shocks come apart every 3-5 minutes of running it. No issues in over a year after I put the straps on.
Put them on my maxx too. Then the third sets on the Raminator. Never needed them on my buggies. Just the heavier trucks with heavy tires/axles.

if money is an issue and your not wanting to spring for the GTRs Id say keep the stockers get aluminum caps and some good springs. IDK if VG racing will fit the stockers. I think not

I totally agree. I’ve tried many aluminum shocks out there and the best by far I’ve ever tried are the Traxxas GTR’s. When set up correctly they give the chassis a super plush and smooth suspension action. I’ve wasted a lot of money eBay/Amazon/AliExpress shocks that looks great, have threaded bodies, and perform horribly with shafts that bend on the slightest impact.
Lots of breakers on eBay and Jenny’sRC are the best bet for the GTR’s. I find for my 2wd Slash setups (all LCG) the GTR’s from the Ultimate 4x4 Slash work perfectly with the springs that come with them using a 6mm limiter in the fronts and front 40-50wt and 35wt in the rear. I’ve gotten full sets from $40.00 to $60.00 Hope this helps.

I have a drawer full of shocks that I purchased for 1/16 scale crawlers. From my experience, it is usually the springs that are to blame for them not working properly. Fortunately, for 1/10 scale shocks, there are lots of spring options.

Some of the nicer shocks I bought were from Integy, but again, the springs were way too firm for my application. And, two of the swivel balls that are hard pressed into the shock using a metal race are completely locked up. Trying to get replacements from Integy was a futile effort that went nowhere, so Integy is now on my poop list.

I would tend to agree, the stock shocks with some springs and caps might be a good option, unless you want to shell out the money for some Pro-Lines or one of the other higher end options. I took some stock Slash shocks and rebuilt them, added some limiters, and they seem like they will work fine on our drag project.

The GTR's are really nice. I have those on my slashpede 4x4 along with the VG springs and VDK pistons drilled out to 1/16". Would have drilled smaller, but that was the smallest I had at the time, so I run thick oil. They did seem pricey, but they are very well built, don't leak and with various aftermarket spring sets available along with the VDK pistons available, it adds to their value, even for a basher like me. I also run them on my eJato, but those are just revo take off's with jato vg springs on them if I remember right. I think I have VDK in them too. Just allows you slow down compression a bit while rebound still remains quick so you don't have to run super stiff springs to keep them from being lethargic.

Wait your blowing shocks apart off 1-5 foot jumps. Or that's how high your trucks are getting. I've got my X 10+ feet in the air with no problems yet. You might want some new springs and different shock oil weight. That definitely shouldn't be happening off that little of a jump. I was expecting you to say 10+ feet jumps...

I've had luck with the TLR shocks. They aren't cheap though

I have blown the tops off my Stampede 4x4 a few times so I bought some aluminum caps and never had a problem since.

I've had luck with the TLR shocks. They aren't cheap though

I picked up some aluminum caps for my 2Pede and now they just weep oil.
