Hi, my brother (brian) is getting a B4 RTR SE and he wants to get a faster motor almost right away. We both have no clue what the "turns" mean and we have no idea what a good esc is, but I've heard that the novak super rooster reversible is good (way to expensive for brian tho) he has about $150 to spend total. If anyone could help us out here, that would be great. And if you could give me a link with the motor and the ESC that would be awesome. thanks!

Come on!!!! I KNOW you guys have upgraded motors and ESC's! Just tell me what you have and if its good! jeese, it can't be that hard! lol.

Cool. Is that a fast setup? Cuz the main reason he wants to upgrade his esc and motor is for speed...

I run stock motors but that ESC can handle any bad ass motor you get....Stock motors typically have more torque and I like to drift, so stock works best for me....they make that model w/ or w/o reverse...mine has reverse...don't know if the reverse take any power from the thing but I don't really need it...I'm pretty sure for 150 bucks you can get anything shy of brushless sets...if he really want holy poop speed then he needs to get a brushless setup....but your looking at anywhere from 200 - 300 bucks....but way less maintenance and WAY more speed....

well the brushless's really arent that fast I've owned one and wasn't inpressed with it i switched back to brushed and my new set-up is a novak gt7 and orion revolution motor

well i run the 15 turn fireball motor it is $25.00 and get a rooster from novak for $69.00 order all this at tower hobbies just thought i help you curtis

Yeah... brushless is way to expensive. this is his first electric and he hasnt even gotten it yet. lol. So what does the "turn" mean in the motor name? like 12 turn or something?

from what i understand ...higher turns eg: 27 turns have more torque but lower top speed and good motor life ....lower turn motors like 15 turns down have much higher top speeds but will have much more maintnence i hear people with motors like 10 turn down have to cut the comm like every 3- 4 runs ...to much work for me
i love my novak brushless

Can't say I know a lot about electrics, but I had a Novak Dually ESC. It's big, but for $90 you can run any turn motor. It handled mod and stock motors.

i know a lot about eletric the number of turn is how many wires around the armiture the lower the turns the faster it gose and it really is not a lot of work to keep them good i clean my motors every 12 -15 runs then get the com drops oil the brushes a little and oil the bearings that it curtis

Wow thanks for the info guys that really helped... Now its time to look for a esc and motor. which motor do you guys recommend?

My dad went out and bought a brand new fireball,we put 3 run's on it,and it's a piece of poop, not worth it to me,we have to replace the brushe's on it because there cheap, doesn't seem worth the $$ spent, better off with a epic or orion.

You wanting to go fast or do you want more TQ?
I myself like Novak in the ESC department.

Ok.... How what does the "stock" mean in the motor? doesn't that mean that it is not upgraded? But how can you get a upgraded stock motor when stock means not upgraded? I dont get it...

Stock motors just mean it's limited to certain specs...I'm not sure what they are but the ROAR site would have that info.....if you've ever seen stock car racing....notice how those aren't really "stock" cars....if they were the focus would be one bad ass car....Stock just limits the mods that you can do to your racer that's all...it's a class of racing...

i would go with a tekin G-10 Pro+ for a esc,and probablly a trinity speed gems 10turn,that will give your brother some power to keep up with you.If he's racing i would go with a Orion

For 27t stock motor http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXZS60&P=0

For all out power http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJGW7&P=7

And for a nice racing esc https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/seekpart.pl?pn=TEK1420

Motors aren't everything,if he want's a fast car,you might also want to look into a nice charger and a set or two Gp3300's or 3600's,that will put him up for anything.

AAAHHHH Yes none of us even mentioned the whole Battery side of this question....GP 3600s rock...I think they make higher current packs now too...

Yeah, battery's play a huge part in your upgrade's with cheap pack's your gonna suck, my suggestion is http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXERB1&P=7
those are pretty much the best batterys, for that mah,or you can get the new 3600 version, check out www.cheapbatterypacks.com they are the cheapest i have found and they can premake them for dirt cheap,my suggestion is to run Gp3600 team with a dean's plug, tamiyas suck, that's pack is for racing,or you can go with a Gp3300 for cheaper and still be able to race with no issue's.

build a Gp3300 pack for refrence,i did,and it came out to $39 buck's,not including shipping.

Batterys should be one of your first upgrades.
