I'm new to the hobby. I bought a cheap basher and it's a blast. Looking to upgrade already but not sure which direction to go. I see a ton of options for crawlers as far as aftermarket goes but I'm not seeing much for the "bashers". I guess my question is are the crawlers good for speed and jumping or are they literally just good for crawling? Also I'm not sure but is there a good basic chassis that I can kinda build off of? Crawlers seem more realistic but buggy and trucks seem to be more fun. Is the old school t maxx still the way to go? Thanks in advance!!

It depends on how much speed you want. Crawlers don't handle well with speed due to the solid axles. For speed bashing you want independent front and rear suspension. There are so many options out there for both ready to run and building your own. What is your budget? Also, what scale? There are great basher from 1/18 scale up to 1/5 scale.

It sounds like you're looking for 1 truck that can do it all. This is likely to lead to one truck that can do many things poorly instead of a few specialized trucks that kicks butt!!!
You might find some that claim to be multi function but if I could suggest this instead...
Because RC is so huge, plan on buying a few over time. Buy one that is the best basher in your budget. Buy a radio that you can use with multiple models, charger too... then decide if you want a crawler for the winter or whatever you're in the mood for now that you've got a build under your belt... I'd bet almost every member here with a few cars has started out exactly where you are right now. 😎

I figured as much with the solid axles and they seem more realistic. I think the one I got is 10th scale. It's a knock off tracxas slash and it's pretty flimsy so I'm looking to upgrade. I was looking for something along the lines of that. Revo or maxx is a little too big for the area I have. I was hoping to find a chassis to start with and build up from scratch not a rtr. Everything I've seen in that route is "crawler". Am I stuck with getting an rtr to start off with. There's so much info out there I'm trying to figure out which lane to go with though. Thanks in advance

1/8 scale buggy would be my suggestion. So many directions one can go.

You're unlikely to find a basher chassis that doesn't come in a kit form, unless you go with one of the kit-breaker/resellers like Jenny's RC.

1/8 tekno buggy or Truggy from eBay, or even the et410’s are great, just make sure it’s in decent shape. If you see rust in any of the pictures pass it up. Plan on going through the entire car and rebuilding it just for peace of mind.
I turned an eb48.3 into a desert buggy. It’s a DB48 and it’s a blast.

I can’t really list too many kit vehicles outside of a Tekno. Most will be an rtr, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
There’s a slash kit out there that you put together if you like short course trucks.
Bottom line will be your budget my friend.
