Hi,

I currently run a GS storm, but am upgrading to a GS Avenger when they are available. I only really use it for “bashing” not racing but of course want to get the best engine. What do you guys think is the best engine to put in a 1/8th buggy and will it be a straight fit with no mods?

If I were you I'd give the stock engine whirl. You never know you actually might not need the engine because you like the stock engine so much.

all motors should be a straight fit... i heard the RB c5 motor is pretty bad ass.. i run the RB WS7II and it is crazy fast..

Just make sure that you get a pilot shaft engine and you should be fine. That guy was having to use a pilot shaft nut because the engine didn't come w/ a pilot shaft.

If I were to tell you what the "best" engine was I would be wrong or it is very debateable as there are many good engines that are extremley close in quality and power. O.S. is good, but I favor European engines. I have yet to own a OS, only driven them a few times on buddies vehicles. Can't go wrong with RB, NovaRossi, Sirio or any of the Nova based engines for that matter. For now my opinion of Asian model engines is ok, they are the cheaper class of engine. Not to say these asian engines are not good, but I wouldn't compare them to Europe or a good OS but that is only my opinion. Good luck as mill choosing is hard and a big decision. I would stay away from bargin engines. Just know it is a huge misconception that these higher performance "race" engines are harder to tune, well the case has been just the opposite for me as these engines seems to take a tune better and hold it better.

Real good point HB.

From what I've seen, there's a really big grey area for engines.

Some of them are fast as hell but unreliable and hard to tune, some of them have a great power band but not a lot of top speed. Some are more reliable then others. It goes on and on. Even within a single manufacturer's line-up there's going to be pros and cons.

It's all about compromise - you have to find the right balance for what you need it for. I am looking forward to picking out a new engine, but I know it's going to be a hard descision.

However, I have heard good things about RB, and there's a lot of respect for NovaRossi products in general.

Yeah I've heard good things about Novarossi too. Might have a serious look at their engines.
