Well, due to high rent most likely, they are relocating the hobby shop and they will still support everyone but they are getting rid of the track. Had some great times down there when I go for vacation.

😥

Edit: first time I just skimmed the story but after reading it more clearly Brent will be trying to find a new location to keep the hobby shop alive although still trying to find a new location in the future for a new track when the time is right 🙏

RC Racing isn't as popular as in years past... for a number of reasons.

I think back when I was racing and the RC market was mostly buggies and stadium trucks. There weren't a lot of models on the market well suited to back yards or grassy areas in general. Tamiyas were different but still not well suited to anything other than hard-packed or smooth surfaces. The Traxxas Stampede came close but still struggled in any grass higher than a golf-course green. The T-Maxx was the first model I owned that could run anywhere and shrug it off.

Today, the models capable of running pretty much anywhere, far out-number the low-slung buggies/truggies meant for the track.

I started the same way. My buggies were great on asphalt, killed tires and such tho. Grass was ok as long as it was trimmed.
The track was def where my buggies performed best.
I agree that its easy to run in the back yard but racing was FUN!
Lots of ppl to hang out with etc... I enjoyed the challenge. Trying different set ups etc. Always trying to get better.
I wished I'd been able to get to more tracks when I was younger.

I got into racing because of my uncle and I prefer racing over bashing because with bashing i have no other people to drive / have fun with in my neighborhood so. Even though my driving isn't up to the pros at the track I still have fun.

That sucks. It's a LOT of space they have. I would imagine to pay the rent they need to have a full house all the time.

I can't figure out how anyone makes money at selling RC car stuff. You need to order what "think" will sell then put it on the shelf and hope someone buys it. It's a lot of money to tie.

I feel the same but when my uncle was into RC.
Its nice to have friends to hang out with at the track too. Always nice to have someone watching for you while you race. Could see a problem with your car that you couldn't see from the stand. Plus the looser has to buy the winner pizza! 🤣

Very sad to hear this. We are a few hours from beachrc and a lot of drivers go to both tracks for bigger races. This is a huge loss for the community, and not just myrtle. Having good tracks further and further apart makes it harder for anyone who wants to step up into bigger events.
