I want to build an RC Rollback truck. I found some great STL files and am printing the parts, I want to go 1:12th scale and after a few measurements found that for my needs I needed to resize the STL files up by 35%. I'm currently reprinting the two piece deck because I wasn't happy with the outcome of the first print job. But on to my question.

The rollback deck is supposed to be controlled by two DC motors, one for back and forth movement, the other to tilt the bed and then level it out again. I'm pretty sure I can mode the motor mount for moving the bed forward and backward so that I can use a continuous motion micro servo for that, but I don't think I have room to mod the motor mount that tilts the bed so it will accept a micro servo. Is there a servo channel to DC motor adapter on the market that would work for this, or perhaps a continuous turn servo shaped much like a DC motor with the servo shaft coming out of its side that would fit in a 12mm x 16mm space?

Oh, and is there a 1:12th scale RC wench that I can add? The STL files have the hardware to use a DC motor for the task, a micro servo won't fit in the casing though. Though I suppose I could just design and print something suitable for that.

I'll need to find a source for tiny lead screws and buy a couple of couplers.

I'll also have to find a 1:12th scale truck with a hard body and removable bed in the hopes of modding the chassis rails of the truck, or the chassis rails of the rollback file, or both to fit them together. I considered using the MN82S but the bed is too short. Of course I could cut the frame of the MN82S in half and use thin sheet metal to extend it and I'd have to do something about the rear drive shaft.. Of course I'd have to replace the receiver and speed controller while I'm at it.

I went looking for a 1:12th scale rollback truck, but no one seems to make one. Too bad, it would be a cool addition to my collection.

It occurred to me just now that since I have access to the chassis part of the rollback truck I don't have to use the one from the collection of STL files I downloaded. I could just measure it out and make my own, then make it so it would fit on top of the existing lengthened chassis of the MN82S, so that problem would be solved, then I should be able to use a servo for tilting the bed since I could make space for it.

I got nothing to add, but I like to see what people are working on. Get yourself a Build Thread Contributor badge... maybe start a Build Thread in the RC Builds and Projects section of the forum for all to follow along. After you are done, show off your build in the RC Showcase section of the forum and getcha another badge.

Party on! :thumbs-up:

I have a couple things...
I am unclear as to why you want to replace the tilt and roll motors with micro servos. Significantly less power by size, generally speaking, from a servo assembly than from a motor.

Also, for your winch...
If you are planning to actually use the bed and winch fir recovery, you need a winch that is MORE powerful than the winches that are normally mounted to a 1/12 scale crawler.

A micro winch for 1/24 scale is too small to pull a 1/12 rc, right?
You need at least 1/12 scale winch for 1/12 scale rcs.

Now if you factor in that the RC you are trying to recover may actually be STUCK in mud, off a cliff... You want MORE power to free a stuck vehicle.

I think you want a 1/10 scale winch for actual use on the 1/12 recovery vehicle.

I used to run a few old squarebody chevys with jerr-dan rollback beds. I would LOVE to see a cool RC rollback build!!!

I agree with @RustyUs .

Please post a build thread so we can follow along.

Also, there are a few EXCEPTIONALLY TALLENTED 3D print gurus here. They might be able to help you thru your resizing issues pretty easily.

You have a very cool project here!!! Good luck!!!

I started a new build thread for this project.
