Hey guys so I messed up and am.trying to fix my mistake but hopefully doi it right this time.
I have a fs g3tb controller
This bad boy takes 8 batteries. Ridiculous.
So I'm trying to convert it to lipo. Success! And fail...
I didnt look at the battery well enough...
My dumbbutt hooked up a 7.2v battery to it!!! It works but the low battery alarm stays on because it's too weak. Lol classic
I dug around and found a 3s hellos battery that is 11.1 v.
Can I use this battery? Or will it burn something out.
And how would I determine whether the battery was too strong?

I soldered a jst plug onto the connectors in the remote
But before I do the same to the battery I want to be sure it works.
The 2s I did the first try with was more a test to see if I could even do it
But this battery I actually use in a truck so I will miss it if it's gone until I replace it.

Yeah, there is a LiPo intended for use in the GT3B. It is a 3s LiPo. So you're good.

@RustyUs That's something that totally slipped my mind! (Joys of getting old! ;) 🤣 )
That's a great idea, as any decent charger lets you change the ending voltage if you want.
If no Ending Voltage adjustment on a charger then I'd use LiIon (4.1v/cell) setting. I just don't like to charge to full 4.2v/cell on a LiPo that's going to be sitting around for long periods of time.

li-ion is now 4.2 a cell..on all chargers since it was upgraded like 6 years ago ...the extra .6 volts will not bother that radio...

I've been using a 3s lipo in my gt3b since 2012-ish.

I've used a 3S LiPo battery in my Futaba 3PM for the last decade or so. I just set ending voltage to 4v/cell on the charger.

That's the same exact pack I have. Well one of them.

Just FYSA, there's a great bearing mod for the gt3b also. If you're interested in making it smoother. The comes stock with a bushing.

Worked like a charm!
No more batteries now running a 3s lipo
Is there a way for me to figure out how long this battery will run before I need to re charge it?

Tinned the wires this time woooohooooo

I use a small lipo alarm, but you can also just check and see what the voltage is at periodically on the screen too. I can't trust myself to remember to periodically check, though, which is why I use the alarm. :)

Oh, my. I guess some companies never got the memo. :thumbs-up:🥶🫘

How long you can go on one charge with that LiPo pack is a good question. Is it true the FS-GT3B radios are power hungry? That's what remember reading about them. I only had a few FS-GT3C radios and never complained about power consumption.

I can't really say, how power hungry it is because I modded mine to use lipo right off the bat when I got it. A good condition 2200mAh LiPo with a full charge will literally last all day.

Do you leave that alarm connected all the time when radio is not in use?
No. That would eventually discharge the battery too far.

One other thing too, if you're lazy you can just let the LiPo run down far enough to where it triggers the built-in low voltage alarm too. Yes, it will cause the LiPo to wear out faster, but it will still last for a long time. I did that with my last lipo and I still got years of use out of it. It just got a bit puffy and the IRs were quite high, but the transmitter is a low power draw for a LiPo so it still works just fine. Not a recommendation but just for informational purposes.
