l want to change out the connecter on a Traxxas battery. There's a small gauge positive and negative wire which l think is the balance wires. l'm going to solder a Spektrum pigtail EC5 connecter onto the main positive and negative wires but it won't have any balance charge wires at all. Should l do something different.??

high power light with magnifying lens and a exacto knife..its going to take time. then heat shrink tubing and pigtail solder iron..you need a bare ec5 not 1 with wires on already..what battery is it?

How do l do that.?? The photo shows 4 wires. You can see the small balance wires sort of wrapped around the main wires going into the traxxas connecter.
And a link to the pigtail that l want to splice. Cut the traxxas connecter off and splice/solder the pigtail onto.

Whats up bud? Why don't you just get adapters. From traxxas ID to EC5 plugs. Or just make those instead of cutting lipos. And maken balance leads. Be way easy with adapters then soldering up balance leads

I second @STONER RC , you are taking a chance of destroying the battery. I would just buy an adapter like he mentioned.
Hell yeah it's a pain in the as*. To wire the balance lead on the traxxas lipo. They are just like the smart lipo from spectrum.

Did you cut the spectrum lipo already?

Photo is up now. Forgot to attach it. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

As stated above l need an EC5 connecter soldered onto a Traxxas battery. l'd like to use a pigtail but apparently that won't work.

I know the traxxas lipo. Just make adapter for it. What do you want on a EC5?

Because its a lot easier to solder a pigtail than it is to solder connecters. We're talking Traxxas here. Traxxas doesn't make a female adapter. lf they do...... Post lt Up.!!!

l want an EC5 on a Traxxas lD battery. No. l haven't cut it yet.

Point me to an adapter. Traxxas lD male to an EC5 or an lC5 female. They are interchangeable.

My Arrma Typhon came with Spektrum electronics. lC5 connecter off the esc. So there's my connection to Spektrum. And l have 2 Spektrum chargers. l run a gensacearespammers battery (lC5 connecter) in the Typhon. l'm running my Rustler a lot less than l used to so l want a second battery for my Typhon. That's where the Traxxas 3s 5000mAh comes into play. That Traxxas battery is probably the best battery l've ever run. lt doesn't bleed speed towards the end of a cycle. lts powerful and gives great run times. l hate Traxxas as a company yet their batteries are near the top. Spektrum batteries suck. Seems like l'll be ordering another gensacearespammers for the Typhon. l like gensacearespammers batteries. A lot. They offer several kinds of connecters on their batteries. EC5 being one of them.

This is why I dont buy 'smart' batteries ;)
I concur in spades. It’s BS to have to run a certain battery and a dedicated charger with so many other options out there and it’s much easier to lock people into that with all of them being RTR’s. The same thing I most hated from Traxxas. These days, it’s now also BS that since Horizon swallowed so many brands at once that they now all share the same electronics and “smart” batteries, each requiring their own dedicated charger. Come on, man. Have I mentioned yet that this is a bunch of BS?

I think Traxxas and Spektrum both realized nobody was buying their batteries (cause they suck) and came up with a way to force people who can't solder to buy their 'smart' batteries and 'smart' chargers. The first thing I did to my Xmaxx was cut the traxxas connector off the esc and switch to XT90's. At the current state of the hobby, with all the cheaper and better options out there for batteries (and electronics in general) there's no reason to be limited to factory batteries and be stuck buying manufacturer specific 'smart' chargers. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who is not on board with this notion.
I see so many people involved in this hobby that can't solder. That's like riding motor cross with no helmet. Its not hard. Lots of instructional videos out there to help you learn.

The smart batteries are a gimmick in my opinion. They do however provide a bit of safety for those people that get into the hobby that have no clue about the dangers of LiPo charging, let alone how to care for their LiPo batteries.

To me though, this does a disservice to the hobby, all while lining the pockets of Traxxas and Horizon by way of selling severely overpriced batteries and chargers. Even buying a RTR that comes with these crappy chargers and batteries has the price inflated to the point you can buy a good hobby grade charger and better batteries for the price difference in an RTR sans batteries and charger.

So I have a hard time recommending them to anyone. I have a Spektrum smart battery that I will be cutting the connector off of, or just giving it away. It was a battery Horizon sent me to replace a wrong battery they sent me. Not sure how I can order a 3s battery with an EC5, get sent one with an XT30, then get a smart battery as a "fix" for their mistake, which has an IC3 on it. But I have 2 batteries that don't fit any of my RC cars, and I have close to 30 RC's.

I do sometimes forget that not everyone is lipo educated. They can be very dangerous if not charged and maintained correctly.
Yeah, I bet the hobby shops love pushing the smart batteries, so they don't have to explain all the needed info to the consumer. I think I saw a movie about it. It was called "Idiocracy" 🤪
