No, I wouldn’t characterize the Chinese as being a “brutal population“ at all. The government is certainly guilty of a number of human rights violations. And if you only ever want to buy ‘Murican you better have some deep pockets. Everybody says that, but the reality is our production can in no way compete with China. And it never will, sadly.
China scares me. Chinese manufacturers have gone from being a seller of cheap goods, to now being a seller of cheap, quality goods. Their machining skills have grown by leaps and bounds in the last 10-15 years. But as RPG says, I definitely wouldn't want to see the day when they are the world leader. Though it is quickly heading that direction.

But it's their mechanical design skills that I still find to be lacking. And the fact that they have no morality when it comes to copywrite infringement just baffles me. Any manufacturer that sends designs to a Chinese manufacturer for a production quote might as well just toss their idea into the garbage can. If their idea is anything that will make money, you can bet that manufacturer is going to sell it as their own design. I have seen this first hand, more than once.

I agree entirely. Back when I was a Traxxas fanboy I discovered that I could get the same products made in the same factory on AliExpress without the branding (HR mostly) and pay $17.00 for it instead of $59.00. So in that regard, I’m definitely contributing to this problem. I can’t really justify it, but if one can get the same part at a much lower price, well….
I also just got another Rocket motor (made in the same factory with the same parts and engineering as the branded HobbyWing motors) for $40.00 instead of $90.00. Let’s not forget we are a capitalist society and the worlds largest single consumer base. I believe China is already the world leader in production and sales. It’s kind of like the war on drugs. Is our drug crisis the fault of Columbia, who only seeks to fill the demand we created decades ago? Of course not. If any huge demand is created anywhere, for anything, then someone will of course tool up and fill the demand. What’s the solution? I certainly don’t know. Don’t do drugs? Don’t participate in the RC hobby? Etc, etc.
We created the monster, not China.
