Anyone know if I have to pull the the trans to do a motor swap??
Or a source for assembly/disassembly views of the single speed trans/motor portion??
Thanks

Technically if you can get to all the screws, then no. But it's probably easier to pop the motor trans than mess around with all the weird angles.

Wish I could do computer stuff like that - but looking at my truck it APPEARS that screws 144 hold
cover 232064 on and it should pop off unimpeded - if so this will be real easy.
When the motor arrives I'll just have to give it a go.

id get or make a couple of 90 degree slotted screw drivers. make sure the slots are different than the 1st one... do you have a propane torch a desert torch will also work. use tip of color change flame were darker blue stats to change to lighter blue have a bowl of water to cool driver

I see there ain't alot of help in this place - later:confused:
What other forums are out there that would help people enjoy the hobbie?

Sorry you feel that way.

Keep in mind that this is a free to use, non-branded forum that discusses the hobby in general. In my opinion, for what it's worth, it is one of the best open forums around. You might try an Axial specific forum.

In the old days we would buy all of our stuff from our local hobby store and they would help us with technical details. Now most of the stuff is purchased online and the community support is what we get. As for the quality and quantity of help depends on a lot of factors.

As for your specific questions

I "think" we tried to help you with diagrams and some advice.

It sounded like you had some ideas of what to expect.

Perhaps we didn't understand the question?

Not a lot of help? You're trying to do a VERY simple mechanical procedure on an RC car. You were shown an exploded view with the exact screws needed to be removed to do what you asked how to do, which is something my 10 year old kid could understand. And something you could have easily looked up yourself. Being mechanically inclined is something that is very important in this hobby. Maybe you need to look into something else. We can't hold your hand through a computer screen and turn the wrenches for you.

☝️ This.

Jerold answered your question already, not sure what else you were expecting? Its 6 screws to remove the motor and the transmission. How much more help do you need? If you did need additional help, you never indicated it. Were not mind readers.

Well a ford trans view is of little help and making tools on the trail is not what I was after.
I searched for hours doing research even before I purchased my toy.
Exploded views help some but first hand knowledge is most helpful.
The first line asks a yes or no question - pretty straight forward and 1st post???
As for going back to 10 years old that ship has sailed.

The original question was a simple, do I have to remove the trans to do motor/pinion
maintenance?

I wasn't aware this hobby was so clicky I might have made a mistake.
But I'll make do some how.
My other interests don't reflect the lets say spirit this place offers:rolleyes:
Sign of the times I guess - I'll confine my activity to search mode.

In all fairness, Jerold answered your yes/no question. This forum is not clicky. We help everyone. Again, as Grey said, if the info posted was not helpful, all you need to do is ask another question. Pics of your kit would help a lot. But generally, swapping a motor is a really straightforward process of removing two screws and soldering the leads to the new motor.

Hey, nice choice with the BaseCamp. I think it’s a pretty new model so most of us do not have experience with it. Probably why knowone could give you first hand advice. It looks very good though, and is on my list of models I want. Really like how low the new transmission is compared to the two speed one of the fancier scx10iii’s. Hope you got this sorted out already, what motor are you swapping to? Sometimes for better slow crawling performance it’s better to swap out the esc to a hobbywing 1080 esc and leave the stock motor.

Don’t give up on the forum here, most are very helpful. Also there’s the rccrawler.com forum that’s ok but don’t expect a lot of response there either. Just doesn’t get a lot of traffic. I generally use this forum and the Arrma forum. I’ve even ask crawler questions on the Arrma forum in the general chaos section. That forum has the most traffic of any rc forum I know of.

and Jerold's answer was just as simple as the question.

Again, if you needed more help than that, all you have to do is ask follow up questions.

In all seriousness, no one is trying to run you off or give you a hard time. In fact it's exactly the opposite. But if you don't want to hang out with us, that's OK too.

If you don't understand or like the answers, we probably didn't understand the details of the question or what you were thinking. The best course of action is to ask more questions and have dialogue. Help really is a two-way street.

Keep in mind that this forum is not brand specific or type specific. It is generically RCs and that is very broad subject, cars, planes, boat, drones, robots, etc and all the applications too. Every type of RC in the world is open for discussion here so the number of Axial Base Camp experts you get will be relatively few compared to an Axial specific forum. However, you will find plenty of people with general knowledge, problem solving and diagnostic skills to help you out.

I'm also on other forums and the two bests ones, that I have found, are this one and Arrma Forums. Which are both run by the same admin and he/she does a great job. He/she runs out the riff raff, keeps people informed of changes, keeps all the info orderly and provides all of this for free.

For the motor swap, you can give it a try and see what you get. The hardest part is probably keeping track of your screws, which ones go where. If you run into issues post back with pictures and questions.

Some general advice I think most people agree with is use good hex drivers (don't cheap out), hand torque everything (care full with the screw gun) and take your time. We all want to get it fixed and get back out there, but I've rushed, made mistakes and delayed my fun too many times.

BTW I don't know if it's the same SCX you have but there is a video of a motor swap and he pulls the trans
