OK so I'm stumped here, but here's what's going on with the XRay Truggy at the moment. Maybe some of you can slap me around?
I was having issues at the track with it last Wed night. It ran GREAT for 10-15 laps...albeit a bit hot at 260-280 (lower temps as I richened a bit). After that I richened it a tad more and it was not happy. Blubbering fuel all over the place and finally stalled itself. So I brought it back in, leaned it out a tad again on the HSN. Then when I went to go start it, the wheels were moving. It fired up anyway, but as soon as I put it on the ground it died. Seemed like a clutch issue after talking to a few people.
I replaced the clutch in it last night with a Blue Aluminum OFNA clutch. Went fairly smooth for my first clutch job on a Nitro. After I did the clutch, I looked up the factory settings for the 21VG bolted to it and reset everything to just start over with tuning it.
It fired right up on the bump box when I got it outside. It was running like crap (to be expected with factory settings), so I leaned it out a bit up top, and a little on the bottom. It started to get better with each little mini run in the front yard. I brought it back in to temp it again and it was running @ 220 - 230. Then it stalled again.
Now I'm back to the wheels spinning yet again. All 4 wheels now spin on the bump box.....but they are spinning BACKWARDS. There is no way I blew the clutch in this thing in like 5 min going fairly slow in my front yard. I did a few WFO passes, but maybe 2-3 of them. I'm thinking maybe the center diff is messed up? Or I fried yet another clutch.
I thought maybe the motor was being fired up backwards, and I mean I suppose it's possible....but I've been starting it the same way every time and have just started having these wheels going the wrong way issues. If and when it finally fires up the wheels stop going backwards and go in the right direction. I'm stumped here....
On a seperate note, with my buggy I seem to have it running pretty well, but if and when it stalls it seems to refuse to refire until it completely cools down, even with a new plug.
I'm getting to my wits end here.....I have read a bunch of engine tuning bibles and such, did some research....but I'm missing something here. Any of you experts have any ideas for me to try?
