AX 24 vs SCX 24 Deadbolt

Performance wise I agree, the battery position on the AX24 is annoying. The Deadbolt is so close in performance, for less money, you can't really go wrong.
The 4ws sold it for me and I feel like the AX24 has a lower center of gravity. I'm going to try the bigger, weighted wheels on the SCX24 to see if it compares. Both are very competent crawlers .

Late to see this thread lol. I also had the same question in my mind. A friend gave me a broken ax and I was debating if it was worth building up from scratch. Axles is broken including the housings. And no tires and wheels and no controller. It’s just a chassis basically with the braces and shocks. A couple of links is missing too. When I start working again (construction union, right now is slow for some reason so no work) I’ll have funds to buy anything I want for these little things. So was debating if it’s worth reviving it or just continue fully modding my scx24 bronco. The scx24 just needs some things left to make it fully completely modified. It’s pretty capable as it is now and surprises me each time I take it out for a crawl. Only thing stock on it is the electronics (besides steering servo is upgraded), axle housings, chassis, transmission, and body. If I wanted to I could make it a 4ws too as I am going to switch electronics over to my flysky gt5.

Yall think it’s better to get my scx24 done first or try and revive the ax24? I also have a trx4m meus ripper chassis that needs everything, as it’s a project I’m scratch building but work slowed down right when I got it.

I have to save, budget, and plan my stuff pretty tight myself. And it never fails. Before I can save enough to do what I want, something else comes up, or I see something I want to tinker with, and I get sidetracked. ADD is real folks lol.

So pick which one you are most intrrested in and go for it. If you have one close to finished, might as well finish it. But I don't think any of mine are completely finished 😝

I'm the OP and I've got some new opinions:
1. The AX24 is significantly more capable of crawling out of the box. IMO all it needs is some weight and it will outperform most upgraded SCX24's. I'm not saying it will beat comp scx24s, but itll put up a great fight.

2. It's been fun driving/crawling my upgraded scx24. There is a joy that comes from watching a small scale vehicle overcoming obstacles.

3. I was unable to get the deadbolt to drop low enough for my taste without doing some bigger mods or changing the chassis. I ended up running with the gladiator as my main rig and I love it.

I'm modding the SCX24 now, trying to get a bit more out of it. Maxxis Trepador tires on beadlocks are on, along with brass wheel inserts in the front. This setup works great on the AX24. Might have some body rub issues, I have longer shocks that will give a bit more room. I tried the shocks before with the stock (shorter) tires with minimal results. Hoping the wheel weights help there. It already has brass dif covers and hexes.

Bigger tires definitely rub. I love the look though. I'll try the longer shocks and then I will post my unprofessional, somewhat misguided opinion on this project. Either way I will be running over things in the near future, soon to be past. Wish me luck.
