I am looking for some more images like this one. Ignore the icons, I am looking for stuff in the same genera as the background image.

Alien.gif

the question I have is, what type of art form is this?

It is digital, it is from www.deviantart.com and it is really ubercool, IMO.

Art forms generally have a term associated with them. Fractal, Minimalistic, individualist, and several other forms have a "term" associated with them and i am trying to figure out what word or words to associate with this picture while using search engine to find more like it.

Of course, this is a unix based PC and I have looked around for that type of image unsuccessfully. I know it might be a shot in the dark to ask here, but figured you guys can be a resourceful bunch when you need to be.

To clear it up a little bit, I am a big fan of this type of art form. "Fractal" Images a re far to busy for my liking. I enjoy the simle, clean layout of the end focal point in the image, with one, small and interesting object to take all of the viewers attention easily.

Does ANYONE get what the hell I am trying to get at here?

Although it's over 20 years distant, my BFA in Art tells me it's surrealism. Surrealism is characterized by a realistic look where the realism is pushed beyond the detail you would observe in a photo or a glance. It's as if you have the ability to look close up from a distance. The shadows, the bubbles, lighting, color chroma, all "too real to be real."

Dig around for Japanese airbrush artists, I've got an old airbrush technique book around here that's filled with this kind of stuff.

Tweak,

Have you tired going back to deviantart and viewing this authors gallery? Maybe he has more of this type of work. A lot of times you can view comments left that might be of other artists that do the same type of work and view their galleries as well.

Didn't find the image on DA, unfortunately. I found it while using "Stumble Upon" a plugin for firefox that I like to use... a lot.

No idea where it came from, tried to look to no avail.

Ran a couple searches in Google for Surreal works and it's still not exactly what I am looking for. I am starting to feel like this is going to be a near impossible task- finding a set of images that will match up to this style.

Well Tweak thanks for getting me sucked in for an hour tonight. :D I think you might search for "surrealsim images" or "hyperrealism images" or keep playing around with it (hyper realism, hyper-realism, etc . . . ) I say sucked in because I stumbled across this AWESOME site

http://fantasyartdesign.com

and just couldn't put it down. :D Most of them are fantasy or space-alien landscapes, but there are some you might like. Some examples (hope you get them, the hot links may get killed: )

One for the gearheads in all of us :D

Will keep looking around, been a long time since I just browsed the web for pictures. :D

That picture of the candle comes in a set, one with a Zippo lighter, one with a candle, a stove burner and that one up there- They are AMAZING, I have all four rotating on my desktop now.

Hyper surrealism is really a very good starting point for what I am looking for, it contains a lot of the basic properties that I like in a piece but like with all other things I either going to have to do a LOT of really fine tuned searching or just end up creating it myself. I have a little basic knowledge of a few programs and I can make some pretty cool looking stuff, but to create the things I see up there....man- that takes pure talent with any program, even the high end ones.

i know this isnt much help but youll find pics like this on alot of unix and mac machines

its rare that youll see those on a windows machine
