i am a custom airbrush painter and for one here are some tips....
1. acrylic paints are no good for lexan unless it says on the bottle...they usually harden too much and crack off really easily
2. the best paint for r/c is either aqua flow or createx opaque water based....or auto air createx of the same opacity....
3. always test a cut off piece first of lexan before spraying any body....
4. xxx main has made the painting world easy for beginners by making paint masks in wide varieties for us the consumers....
5. when applying the paint always keep a hair dryer around to dry the coats....start by lightly misting the first coat to make your lighter colors "finish" with a brighter finish....NEVER just spray the first coat thick...if it runs you will be able to see it through the lid from the outside....
6.PATIENCE....don't rush....do the steps....wash the body clean with alcohol to get off residue and finger prints...wipe with terry cloth...not paper towels as they leave traces of residue and can actually scratch the body.....take the time to prep the work....it also helps to heat the body before you apply paint to help it stick better....
7 GOOD AIRBRUSH...get a high end brush...i use the iwata eclipse and the vega 2000 thayer and chandler....both are perfect for painting smaller areas
here is a pic of my last body done with createx paints and xxx main graphics....hope this helps...and anything you need contact me here:
