Hi everybody I hope we are all well..
I'v been having a problem with my new Nitro buggy and unable to find the problem I found this site, I found a similar thread but without an outcome, let's see how we go..

I own an Amax Leopard 2 speed buggy and broke it in gently, on about the 10th tank it ended as usual all seemed fine, the next day I pulled it out, with nothing being touched overnight, gave the starter a pull and it starts 1st time like usual, thats where it ends.. what happens now is it will be flying along as usual, drop into 2nd gear at the correct speed and DIE as soon as it engages, it will die rite away unless i kill the throttle and get it back into 1st gear and hold it just below the 2nd gear change point, when it does change into 2nd gear it literally sounds and performs how a real car would if you shifted from 1st to 5th gear strait,

Now, iv had experience with nitro cars all be it some 20yrs ago and only with single speed boxes, but none the less I know how to setup and tune Nitro engines, Iv been through everything I can think of including swaping clutches, gearboxes and diff's, iv pulled the engine out a couple of times and check for leaks and to ensure drive gear mess and visually inspected it from head to toe, I'm completely stumped, its such a simple straitforward setup I just can't see what else it can be?? Iv been trying to solve this for almost 2 weeks now and am obviously missing something very silly I'm just too close to it to see it, I mite also add that a lot of people have suggested a mixture issue, in my case I'm posititve its correct and considering it was fine 1 minute and not the next just confuses it all..

Ok? any takers?

Thanks a lot for any help someone may have, I'm losing my mind! help!! :)

Nick,

Sound like you are getting binding in 2nd or maybe it's leaving 1st engaged when shifting into 2nd.

1st has to give way 2nd or they will bind, does 1st use a OWB? If it does, does it work or is it locked up?

It.continues

It does have a OWB and it's functioning as it should, the way 2nd gear works on this one is first and second gear are in constant mesh with the clutch bell with too fixed drive gears and when sufficient revs/speed is reached a little arm extends via centrifical force and locks second gear in, first gear is always engaged just not always driving it..

There is a means of adjusting the change point for second gear also, this is achieved easily via tightening and loosening a small grub screw on the second gear clutch, iv got it set for around 20meters after takeoff but have tried everything from almost right away to locking it completly, with it locked to stay in first gear only, iv been able to lean it out and it flies, but once I allow second gear to engage via loosening the grub screw? Same tying, it does it still!

I really appreciate the help from you guy's, it's so frustrating when there is obviously a simple answer but I'm just too dumb to see it lol

even still..

Hi everybody, again...

So I'm hunting around and came upon this old question I posted back in Feb 2012, a while after I posed this extremely annoying problem I believed I fixed it, it was mixture, TINY adjustments were needed, ie 1/16-1/32 of a turn on the HSN, but now after not being run since shorty after guess whats happening? same thing, I've spent a few days playing with it, so if anyone out there has something to add to this still evolving saga feel free to chirp in!:\ :whhooo:

If it takes off fine and accelerates till it hits 2nd, then dies, it's a tuning issue with the HSN. Without hearing it I can't tell if it's too lean or too rich. Does it quit quickly or does it blubber and stutter after hitting 2nd. If it's the first option, you'll need to richen the HSN. If it's the latter you'll need to lean it.
only adjust when it's warmed up and only do a little at a time with test runs in between to clear it out.
