One thing that just really annoys me about eBay and is one reason why I hardly use it to purchase items is the fact when I search for say something for my MGT I'll search for "MGT" or "Monster GT" and I'll get CEN, T-maxx, and all kinds of other crap because some kid wants to sell their SmartTech and they'll put mgt, lst, revo and junk in their titles so when you search for "MGT" you get his crap.

Well low and behold I just found a feature that I'm sure has been there for some time now that's the "Report This Item" link at the bottom of the auction. Clicking that link then selecting:

"Listing Policy Violations..."
and then "Keyword Spamming"
then selecting "Inappropriate use of terms not relevant to the item"
when you press continue click on the Email Us link and click send this will send the auction number to eBay and they'll remove it for keyword spamming.

Finally a way to clean house and hopefully stop people trying to sell me their smartttech crap to me when I'm looking for MGT parts.

I figured it was just never paid much attention to it until now, the nice thing is eBay actually removes the auction and then emails the seller as to why. Nice to know eBay is actually doing something about it.

They should do something, all the damn fees they charge for everything, lol. I wonder if they remove a listing if you are refunded your listing fee, or if you are sol? Maybe if it cost you the listing fee people would thing twice about pulling that.

hmmmm i think I'll start reporting some of the sellers I dont like on ebay. Almost all of them do it. I know one that lists 4-5 kits at a time that way (in peices). Imagine having all 30-40 of your auctions pulled and you lose the listing fee for all of them. I'm feeling evil...

Muahahahaha!

ah....guilty on this one I'm afraid, let me explain why.

When I sold my Lightning, in the title I put "Like Hyper 7, MBX5"..... Why?

Well because they ARE very similar and I want my auction to get the most amount of "hits" it can.

Someone may well only know about Hyper7s, they might see mine and think it looks better and want mine instead. I wouldn't put Savage "like Hyper" but I see no reason why you should not be allowed to say "Like" something else if it truely is.

In a shop, similar products are always grouped together. You'll find Bud next to Miller with Stella and Kronenborg etc and all the others. All the Breakfast cereals are together and we don't complain and say "how come I've got to look past the Cornflakes to get to the Cinnamon Grahams" do we? or do we??!

Admittedly getting a load of stuff on a search that you are not interested in can be a pain (a bit like having to see past the buds to get to the Stellas in the fridge) but I don't blame people doing it within reason. I mean someone putting Savage like Dog Kennel would annoy but Savage like MGT wouldn't, I'd just ignore it, its not hard to know which ones to ignore.

You are comparing apples to oranges, and simply trying to justify doing it.

Where else would they put the cereals in a store, but next to each other, in the cereal isle, that is just a rediculous statement if I ever heard one. I have NEVER seen on my Apple Cinnamon Cheerios box, "like" AppleJacks.

If I am looking for a Hyper 7, why would I be at all interested in a lightning? If I was on ebay motors and was looking for lets say a Chevy Corvette, do you really think I want to look at mustangs? Should they say Corvette, like ferrari, lamborghini, GT 40, NO! I am looking for a corvette and really don't give a crap about the other cars. Same as you word spamming that your lightning is "like" an MBX5, when in all actuality an MBX5 is NOTHING at all like a lightning other than the fact they are both 1/8 scale buggies.

So your beer and cereal reasoning is so far off base it's not even funny. I will give you credit however for at least trying to justify what you are doing, albeit againt ebays rules and really quite annoying. And should I come across one of your word spammed auctions I will gladly pass it along to the ebay staff.

Possibly but no one is perfect!

Funnilly enough, it is a marketing ploy used where "own brand" (not sure what the term is in the states) packaging is very similar to premium brands. This is were the "like" bit comes in.

You wouldn't necessarily, I agree but what about people who know little or nothing of the alternatives?

Agree completely, fortunately 1:1 cars are split by manufacturers so theres no need to say "like". This isn't practical or done for rc's on ebay.

My missus can't tell the difference!! She still thinks my Mugen IS my lightning!

I have to disagree here, you could never suggest beer was like cereal but why can you not suggest one RC Monster truck is like/similar to another? Someone who knows the difference between a Savage and an MGT will find it quite easy to ignore the results they don't want, whereas someone who is curious about getting an MT but have only heard of a Savage will quite possibly be educated and find there are other choices out there. I'm not saying I or anyone else should completely bullsh1t on their auctions but I don't find, something "like" something, annoying as long as its within reason.

Savage "Like" Hyper NO NO NO.

Savage "like" MGT, Just about.

I've never had an auction canned by ebay by the way nor have I ever had any complaints. (Not that i've sold much)

If you come across one of my auctions and get it canned, I'll come on here and call you mean names!!!

I wont do it anymore woodie.. Sorry ;) (I hear ya though. That poop sucks.)

I absolutely hate when people spam their titles with crap that isnt related to the item. It is just plain annoying. There is no justification of doing it, period. If you list your car on ebay, be it a mustang, and put in like camaro, its a lie, because it is a mustang, not a camaro! I can't spell mustang with camaro, can you?

Ryan, so in other words you are intentionally trying to mislead someone who may already be confused strictly for your own benefit, and you are even dishonest to even your own wife? WOW! I am glad I never got in to a deal with you. :thumbdown Call me all the names you would like, I doubt you can find anything I have not already been called before.

Whooa think you've gone a bit far there!!!

No, I have never lied, exagerated (sp?) or been anything other than honest in any auction about what I'm selling or the condition its in, nor have I ever sold something faulty. All I have ever done is, for example, put the names of other 1/8th buggys in the title field when I've sold a 1/8th Buggy for someone who may be looking at them or when I've sold an RB engine I probably put "Rossi" or "Sirio" thats it. Now if you wanna get excited about me trying to get as many people to see my auction as possible (which is the reason I would do it) then go ahead but I certainly do not, will not and have not EVER tried to mislead someone.

Further more, my point being about my wife, was that, far from me being dishonest to her, that to her naked untrained eye she can't tell the difference between a lightning and a mugen. She has no interest in my "little cars". Whenever I've bought anything she says thats nice dear, it looks like the last one. I take exception to that kind of slur.

I will happily never deal with you sir.

I've been using eBay for like 9 years now, never paid attention that was there, but you better believe I'm gonna use it!

I'm not going to lie - I've already reported a good dozen or so and have been happy to see those auctions be taken off line.

Thing is I get really tried of having to search through pages and pages of crap auctions because someone is trying to pawn off their crap to me that isn't what I'm looking for.
