airbrushing??

well i have decided to pick up the airbrush and leanr how do do this my step dad has a nice airbrush compressor and gun and i was wondering what kind of paint i need to buy is it a certain kind or does like normal ceramic acrilic stuff work thanks in advance guys

To paint bodies you'll need paint that's specific for polycarbonate. The most popular are probably Parma Faskolors, Pactra Racing Finishes, Tamiya, Spaz Stix and Createx regular and Createx Auto Air. Other paints won't bond with the plastic and they'll chip even with the slightest impact. Search around the Body Shop forum and you'll find a lot of threads on good strategies for painting our car bodies.

ok thnk you man also what if you cover the paint with a laquer after done painting would that help with the chipping??

No. Lacquer isn't flexible. Do your final covering coat with black, white or clear. I usually use Parma black.
Just remember, you paint the inside, not the outside.

Any hobby shop that sells RCs, or on line at Tower.
The Parma paints are water wash up. Spaz Stix and Alclad require special thinners and cleaners.

there is also a new line of paints put out by the makes of House of Kolor called Kustom Kolor it should be available at most LHS and can be found at tower hobbies online. It is an enamal based paint and they have a wide range of colors to choose from.

Just one word on safety you will want to get a respirator to wear while you paint especialy if you are useing a solvent based paint as the fumes can really get to you and cause permanent harm to your respiratory system. you can find a decent respirator at home depot, lowes, target, pepboys etc for around 30$ just make sure it's rated for paint fumes. Your lungs will thank you.

You need the mask just to keep the paint dust out of your nose.
With the solvents and the fumes, only the dust stays out. When your teeth start to vibrate and you can't remember where your lips were, it's time for fresh air.

well ill be painting in my shop so theres plenty of ventalation would a small fan be a good idea?

A small fan would be good. That'll keep the air moving. But definitely invest in a good respirator. Doesn't matter if the paint is water based or not. If it gets in your lungs it can cause permanent damage.

IMO, the Pactra paints are far superior to either parma faskolor, createx, auto air, etc. They shoot great, cover nice and even, and the acrylics clean up real easy too. I have had one too many bad experiences with Parma paint, another one again here just recently, I won't be using it anymore, I will be sticking with the Pactra Acryl. Spaz stix makes an awesome product too, their hard metals look incredible.
